You will need:

Small amounts of 4 ply cotton yarn in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet and White
2.5mm hook
6mm safety eyes
A small amount of toy stuffing
Black embroidery thread

Abbreviations: (UK terms)
ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
dc - double crochet
dec - decrease (dc two together)

Sunshine Pencil Topper
Crochet in the round.

Topper
Using Yellow and 2.5mm hook, 2ch.
Rnd 1: 8dc in second ch from hook – 8dc.
Rnds 2 to 10: 8dc.
Fasten off and weave in ends
Sunshine face (make 2)
Using Yellow, 2ch.
Rnd 1: 6dc in second ch from hook – 6dc.
Rnd 2: 2dc in each st around – 12dc.
Rnd 3: (dc, 2dc in next st) six times – 18dc.
Rnd 4: (2dc, 2dc in next st) six times – 24dc.
Rnd 5: (3dc, 2dc in next st) six times – 30dc.
Fasten off leaving a long thread.
Sunshine points (make 7)
Using Orange, 2ch.
Rnd 1: 6dc in second ch from hook – 6dc.
Rnd 2: dc in each st around
Rnd 3: (dc, 2dc in next st) three times – 9dc.
Fasten off leaving a long thread.
To finish:
Attach safety eyes. Using black embroidery thread embroider a mouth. Place panels wrong sides together and sew together through back loops only. Stuff lightly before finishing. Sew points evenly around edge of face through front loops. leaving a space to sew sunshine face to pencil topper.

Using White and 2.5mm hook, 15ch.
Row 1: dc in second ch from hook, dc to end, turn – 14dc.
Row 2: ch, 14dc, turn.
Row 3: ch, dec, 12dc, turn – 13dc.
Row 4: ch, dec, 8dc, 2dc in next st, miss 2sts, turn – 11dc.
Row 5: ch, 8dc, 2dc in next st, miss 2sts, turn – 10dc.
Row 6: ch, 8dc, dec, turn – 9dc.
Row 8: ch, dec, sl st in next st, 4dc, dec, turn – 6dc, 1sl st.
Row 9: ch, dec, dc, dec, miss next 2sts, turn – 3dc.
Row 10: ch, dec, dc – 2dc.
Fasten off leaving a long thread.
To finish:
Attach safety eyes. Using black embroidery thread embroider a mouth. Place panels together one on top of the other and sew together around edges. Stuff lightly before finishing. Sew cloud to pencil topper.

Rnd 4: Using Blue, (2dc, 2dc in next st) six times – 24dc.
Rnd 5: Using Green, (3dc, 2dc in next st) six times – 30dc.
Rnd 6: Using Yellow, (4dc, 2dc in next st) six times – 36dc.
Rnd 7: Using Orange, (5dc, 2dc in next st) six times – 42dc.
Rnd 8: Using Red, (6dc, 2dc in next st) six times – 48dc.
Fasten off leaving a long thread.
To finish:
Attach safety eyes. Using black embroidery thread embroider a mouth. Fold circle in half and sew together around edges. Stuff lightly before finishing. Sew rainbow to pencil topper.
