- DK weight yarn in green, black and red (I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Lime Green, Pure Black and Pillar Red)
- 2.5mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle, scissors

Special Stitches
3tr-inc: 3 treble crochet in the same stitch.
Mini Berry Stitch (bst)
- Insert your hook into indicated stitch.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook).
- Leaving the first loop on your hook, chain 3.
- Yarn over and pull though both loops on hook.
- Single crochet in indicated stitch.
Finished Size
The finished poppy measures approximately 2.5″ x 2.5″ (6.5cm x 6.5cm). Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.
Gauge
Gauge is not important in this pattern. However, using a different yarn and hook size will change the size of the finished item.
Notes
- The pattern is worked in joined rounds.
- All colour changes take place in the last yarn over of the previous colour.
- The ch 1 at the beginning of R1 and R2 does not count as a stitch.
Pattern Instructions
Poppy (starting with green)
Tip: Crochet over your ends where possible.
Make a magic ring
R1: Ch 1, 8 hdc in magic ring – change to black in last hdc – sl st to first hdc to join (8)
R2: Ch 1, [bst, sc] x8 – change to red in last sc – sl st FLO to first bst (16)
R3: Working in the FLO for the entire round – ch 3, tr in same st, [tr-inc] x6, tr in next st, ch 3, sl st in same st. Sl st in next st, ch 3, tr in same st, [tr-inc] x6, tr in next st, ch 3, sl st in same st (2 petals)
Fasten off.
R4: Join red yarn in the last leftover back loop from R3. Ch 1, [hdc, hdc-inc] x8, sl st to first hdc to join (24)
R5: [Ch 3, tr-inc in same st, [tr-inc, 3tr-inc] x3, tr, ch 3, sl st in same st, sl st in next st] x2, ch 3, tr-inc in same st, [tr-inc, 3tr-inc] x3, tr, ch 3, sl st in same st (3 petals)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
