- Hook, Size 4
- Wool, Double knit – one 50g ball of soft wool
Stitches
- Chain – ch
- Slip Stitch – sl st
- Half Double Treble – htr
- Double Crochet – dc
Hat
Start with a magic circle
Ch 1 followed by 5 htr into the circle and sl st into top of first htr
Round 1 – ch 2 and 1 htr in same stitch then 2 htr in each stitch sl st
Round 2 – ch 2 and 1 htr in same stitch *1 htr, 2 htr, 1 htr* to end of row sl st
Round 3 – ch 2 and 1 htr in same stitch *1 htr, 1 htr, 2 htr* to end of row sl st
Round 4 – ch 2 and 1 htr in same stitch *1 htr, 1 htr, 1 htr, 1 htr, 2 htr* to end of row sl st
Round 5 – ch 2 and 1 htr in same stitch *1 htr, 1 htr, 1 htr, 1 htr, 1 htr, 2 htr* to end of row sl st
Round 6 – ch 2 and 1 htr in same stitch *1 htr, 1 htr, 1 htr, 1 htr, 1 htr, 1 htr, 2 htr* to end of row sl st
Round 7 to 11 – one htr in each stitch of the previous round
Round 12 – one htr in the back of the stitch only from the previous round
Round 13 – one dc in each stitch from the previous round
Fasten off. Sew in the ends.
Ears – make 2
(To make two coloured ears use a lighter or darker wool for the first two rounds).
Start with a magic circle leaving a long tail
Ch 1 followed by 5 htr into the circle and sl st into top of first htr
Round 1 – ch 2, 1 htr in next stitch, 3 htr in next stitch, 2 htr in next stitch, 1 htr in next stitch, turn
Round 2 – ch 2 then 1 htr in each stitch from the previous round, the rounded side
Row 3 – 1 dc in each stitch on the bottom of the ear, the flat edge
Leave a long tail so you can attach the ears to the hat.
Sew on ears then sew in the ends.
