Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "AUNT LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN, Article 235
2 skeins Cream
1 skein National Blue or any contrasting color.
Aluminum crochet hook Size H or I.

With Cream ch 35, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 5 sts of ch, 1 s d c in each of the next 28 sts of ch (s d c: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), turn.
2nd Row. Ch 2 (counts as 1 s d c), 1 s dc in each of the next 27 s d c, 1 s c in each of the last 6 s c working in back loop of sts only for ribbing, ch 1, turn.
3rd Row. 1 s c in each of the next 6 s c working in back loop of sts only, working in both loops work 1 s d c in each of the next 28 sts, ch 2, turn.
4th Row. S d c in same space (increase), 1 s d c in each s d c working through both loops of sts, 1 s c in each of the next 6 s c working in back loop of sts only, ch 1, turn. Always work in back loop of sts for ribbing and through both loops of sts for remainder of mitt.
5th Row. 1 s c in each of the 6 s c, 1 s d c in each remaining st working 2 s d c in last st, ch 2, turn.
6th Row. 1 s d c in each s d c, 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn.
7th Row. 1 s c in each s c, 1 s d c in each s d c decreasing 1 s d c at top of mitt (to decrease: yarn over hook, insert in next st, pull loop through, insert hook in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), ch 2, turn.
8th Row. Same as 6th row but decreasing 1 s d c at top of mitt, ch 1, turn.
9th Row. Same as 3rd row.
10th Row. Same as 6th row.
Next Row. Start thumb: working in back loop of sts 1 s c in each of the next 6 s c, working through both loops of sts 1 s d c in each of the next 14 s d c, ch 10 for thumb, s d c in 3rd st from hook, 1 s d c in each of the next 7 sts of ch, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 s d c on hand part of mitt working towards the ribbing, sl st in next st, ch 2, turn.
Next Row. Skip the sl st, 1 s d c in each of the next 12 sts, ch 2, turn.
Next Row. 1 s d c in each of the next 12 s d c, 1 s d c in next row, 1 s d c in same space with last sl st, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 s d c, sl st in next st, ch 2, turn.
Next Row. Skip the sl st, 1 s d c in each of the next 14 s d c, s c in next st, sl st in next st, cut yarn.
Attach yarn in 14th st from top of thumb and working towards ribbing s c in next st, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 sts, s d c in next row, 1 s d c in same space with last sl st, 1 s d c in each of the next 7 s d c, 1 s c in each of the next 6 s c working through front loop of sts, cut yarn.
Work another section in same manner.
Sew letters in place on top part of mitt before sewing sections together.
D: With Blue ch 9, cut yarn. With Blue ch 25, cut yarn. Sew the 9 ch strip straight and sew the 25 ch strip around to form letter D as illustrated.
A: With Blue ch 4, cut yarn. With Blue ch 22, cut yarn. Sew in position to form A as illustrated. Work another D in same manner and sew in position.
Sew the 2 sections together leaving about 1 inch free at outer edge of ribbing.

Cuff. Attach Blue at lower edge and working on right side work 28 s c across lower edge, cut yarn.
Next Row. Attach Cream at opposite side and working in back loop of sts for this row only, ch 2, s d c in same space, 1 s d c in each s c working 2 s d c in last s c, ch 2 to turn each row.
Next Row. Working in s d c, increase 1 s d c at beginning and end of row.
Next Row. 1 s d c in each s d c.

Next 2 Rows. Increase 1 s d c at beginning and end of each row. Repeat the last 3 rows once, cut yarn. Attach Blue on right side and work 1 s c in each s d c across top, 3 s c in corner, 1 s c in each row down side of opening and 1 s c in each row up opposite side of opening, 2 s c in same space as beginning, join, cut yarn.
