Materials

  • DK Yarn in light grey and purple*
  • 4.5mm Hook for the body
  • 4mm Hook for the eyes

*For my design I used Scheepjes Softfun in Cloud and Heath, which is a cotton/acrylic blend but any DK yarn can be used.

Stitches

  • ch – chain
  • dc – double crochet
  • tr – treble
  • htr – half treble
  • dtr – double treble
  • ss – slip stitch

Pattern

Note:Starting chain does not count as a stitch.

Foundation: working in light grey with a 4.5mm hook and ch7.

Round 1 – htr in the second stitch from the hook, then htr in the next 5 stitches. Work 4tr in the same last stitch (making it 5htr in total, this is the curved edge), then htr in the next 5 stitches. [15]

Round 2 – Turn work and ch1, work a htr in the next 5 stitches, then 2htr in following 5 stitches, then htr in the next 5 stitches. [20]

Round 3 – Turn work and ch1, work a htr in the next 5 stitches, then (htr, 2htr) 5 times, then htr in the next 5 stitches. [25]

Round 4 – Turn work and ch1, work a htr in the next 5 stitches, then (htr, htr, 2htr) 5 times, then htr in the next 5 stitches. [30]

Round 5 – Turn work and ch1, htr in the next 5 stitches, then (htr, htr, htr, 2htr) 5 times, then htr in the next 5 stitches. DO NOT fasten off.

THE TAILS

Round 6 – Continuing on from the body… *work 2tr, 2dtr and 2tr all in the same stitch (marked by the first x in Image 2), then ss into the stitch marked with the first y*.

Repeat ** twice using image 2 as guidance, to create 3 half circle tails. Fasten off.

EYES

Using a 4mm hook, *Ch3, slip stitch into the third chain from the hook, to create a ring. Ch1 and 8dc into the centre of the ring, ss to first dc. Fasten off. Use ends to sew eye into place on the body.*

Repeat ** for the second eye.
