Crochet Apple Square

Materials Needed:

  • Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick 3 colors (or any six weight yarn)
  • Color A: Cranberry Color B: Grass Color C: Fisherman
  • N crochet hook (9 mm)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Markers (optional): These are used to mark the beginning st of the round
  • Measuring Tape

Stitches Used:

  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip Stitch (sl st)
  • Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Notes:

  • This apple square pattern is written in US standard terms.
  • The finished square size is 8 inches by 8 inches.
  • You are welcome to change the colors throughout the apple, including the stem! Have fun with it.

The Pattern:

Round 1: With color A, Ch 4, sl st to the first ch to form a circle.

Round 2: Ch 2, 10 dcs into the circle, sl to the top of the first dc (not the ch 2). (10 sts)

Round 3: Ch 2, 2 dcs into each dc around, sl to the first dc (not the ch 2). (20)

Round 4: Ch 2, 2 dcs into each dc around, sl to the first dc (not the ch 2). (40 sts)

Round 5: With color B, ch 1, 1 sc into each of the next 4 sts, hdc, *{1 dcs, ch 1, 1 dc} into the next st, hdc, 1 sc into each of the next 7 sts, hdc, *{1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc} into the next st, hdc,

1 sc into each of the 7 sts, hdc *{1 dcs, ch 1, 1 dcs} into the next st, hdc ,sc, sc, change to Color C (bringing Color B along the back of Color C as your work) {sc, fpdc}, {sc, fpdc}, {sc, fpdc} change to Color A, sc, sc, hdc *{1 dcs, ch 1, 1 dcs} into the next st, hdc, sc, sc sc, sl st to join to the first sc (not the ch 1). Round 6: ch 1, 1 sc into each of the next 5 sts, {hdc, ch 1, hdc} into the ch 1 space from the round before, 1 sc into each of the next 11 sts, {hdc, ch 1, hdc} into the ch 1 space from the round before, 1 sc into each of the next 11 sts, {hdc, ch 1, hdc} into the ch 1 space from the round before…

1 sc into each of the next 4 sts, sc through the bar of the color B from the row before, sc through the bar of Color B from the row before, sc through the bar of Color B from the row before, 1 sc into each of the next 4 sts, {hdc, ch 1, hdc} into the ch 1 space from the round before, 1 sc into each of the next 6 sts including the sl st from the round before.
