MATERIALS

  • Aunt Lydia's Fashion Crochet size 3 crochet cotton (150 yds per ball):
  • 2 balls #775 warm rose

  • Size D/3/3.25mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle

    Sewing needle

    White sewing thread

    1-inch-wide elastic: 23 inches

    1-gallon round plastic jug

    Tape

    Paper

    Craft scissors

    7sc = 1 1/2 inches; 4 sc rnds = 3/4 inch

    SUN VISOR

    Visor Section

    Make 2.

    Row 1: Starting at outer edge of Visor, ch 85, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (84 sc)

    Row 2: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 5 sc, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sc] 12 times, turn. (72 sc)

    Row 3: Ch 1, sc dec in next 2 sc, sc in each sc across to last 2 sc, sc dec in next 2 sc, turn. (70 sc)

    Rows 4 & 5: Rep row 3. (66 sc at end of last row)

    Row 6: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 4 sc, sc dec in next 2 sc] 11 times, turn. (55 sc)

    Rows 7-11: Rep row 3. (45 sc at end of last row)

    Row 12: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 3 sc, sc dec in next 2 sc] 9 times, turn. (36 sc)

    Row 13: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 4 sc, sc dec in next 2 sc] 6 times, turn. (30sc)

    Row 14: Rep row 3 (28 sc)

    Row 15: Sl st in each of next 4 sc, sc in each of next 20 sc, leaving rem 4 sc unworked, fasten off first Visor Section. (20sc)

    At the end of 2nd Visor Section, do not fasten off.

    Joining

    Row 16: With WS of Visor Sections tog and working through both thicknesses, sc in each of next 20 sc. Fasten off.

    Place Visor on paper and trace outline, cut out, tape firmly on plastic jug and cut out Visor pattern from jug.

    Insert plastic piece between layers of crocheted Visor Sections.

    Band

    Rnd 17: Now working in rnds, working through both thicknesses, join with sc in starting ch on opposite side of row 1, ch 1, sc in each of next 84 sc, working in ends of row on inner edge, evenly sp 18 sc across to row 16, sc in each of next 20 sc, work evenly sp 18 sc across opposite edge of ends of rows, ch 45 (back of headband), sc in first sc at opposite corner of Visor, do not join.

    Rnd 18: Sc in each sc across inner curve of Visor, sc in each of next 45 chs, do not join. (101 sc)

    Rnd 19: Sc in each sc around.

    Rnds 20-31: Sc in each sc around. At the end of rnd 31, pull up lp, remove hook. Fold elastic to form circle, overlapping ends by 1/2 inch, with sewing needle and white thread, sew ends tog. With elastic encased in center, fold Band in half over elastic, pick up dropped lp.

    Rnd 32: Working through both thicknesses of sc of rnd 31 and sts of rnd 18, sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
