Crochet Christmas Candle

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Candle – 6.0”H and 3.5” in diameter; Flame – 2.0”H;
Doily – 8.5” in diameter;

CROCHET HOOKS
G6 (4.0 mm) and 7 (4.5 mm) crochet hooks, OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

GAUGE
15 sc and 18 rows to 4”/10cm, using G6 (4.00mm) crochet hook.

Be sure to check your gauge before starting to crochet. If the gauge is larger, change to a smaller hook size, or work tightly. If it is smaller, change to a larger hook size, or work loosely.

MATERIALS
Caron Simply Soft Party (99% acrylic/ 1% Metallic Polyester 3 oz/85g;164yds/150m) Worsted weight;
• Main Color (MC) (0015 Red Sparkle) – approx. 60 yds;
• Contrast A (9701 White) – approx. 45 yds;
• Small amount of yellow and green yarn.
• Matching thread and needle.
• Cardboard 10.5”L x 6.0”W.
• Glue or tape.

SPECIAL STITCH
Picot = Ch 3, sl st into third ch from hook.

INSTRUCTIONS

Notes:
1) The candle with Doily is worked in one piece downward from top, and candle is worked in continuous rounds. The Doily is worked in joining rounds. The Flame, Holly Leaves and Holly Berty are worked separately, then sewn in place.

2) To avoid mistake(s), count stitches in each round, or row when finished.

CANDLE

Note: Work in continuous rounds without joining. Place a marker in first st of first rnd and move up each rnd.

Rnd 1: With MC and smaller hook, ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook – 6 sts.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – 12 sts.

Rnd 3: 2 sc in each st around – 24 sts.

Rnd 4: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around – 36 sts.

Rnd 5: Sc in each st around – 36 sts.

Rnd 6: *Sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around – 42 sts.

Rnd 7: Sc in each st around – 42 sts.

Next Rnds: Rep last rnd until piece measures 6.0”/ 15 cm from Rnd 7.

Cut MC, join A.

DOILY

Rnd 1: With A and larger hook, FPsc around post of each st around; join with sl st in first FPsc – 42 sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 2 (does not count as st), * dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first dc – 56 sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, dc in each st around; join with sl st in first dc – 56 sts.

Rnd 4: Ch 2, * dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first dc – 70 sts.

Rnd 5: Ch 3 (does not count as st), [(tr, ch 1) twice, tr, Picot] in each st around – 210 tr; 140 ch-1 spaces; 70 Picot.

Fasten off. Secure yarn to WS.

FLAME

Note: Work in continuous rounds without joining. Place a marker in first st of first rnd and move up each rnd.

Rnd 1: With yellow and smaller hook, ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook – 5 sts.

Rnd 2: Sc in each st around – 5 sts.

Rnd 3: 2 sc in each st around – 10 sts.

Rnd 4: Sc in each st around – 10 sts.

Next Rnds: Rep last rnd until piece measures 1¾ ”/ 4.5 cm from beg.

Next Rnd: *Sc in next st, skip next st; rep from * around – 5 sts. Fasten off.

HOLLY LEAF (make 2)

Rnd 1: With green and smaller hook, ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next st, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st, 3 sc in nexts st, working on opposite side of ch, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in last 2 sts; join with sl st in first sc – 15 sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sl st in first st, * [sc, ch 2, sl st into 2nd ch from hook, sc] in next st, sl st in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in next st – 7 Picot. Fasten off.

HOLLY BERRY

Rnd 1: With MC and smaller hook, ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook; join with sl st in first st – 5 sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 1 (does not count as st), 2 sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc – 10 sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, *sc in next st, skip next st; rep from * around – 5 sts. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Place Flame in center of Candle top and sew in place. Using photo as a guide, sew Holly Leaves to doily, then sew Holly Berry to center of Leaves.

Cardboard tube

Cut a rectangle 10.5”L x 6.0”W from cardboard. Roll the cardboard to make a cylinder 6.0”H and 3.5” in diameter overlapping cardboard edges by ¾” [1.9 cm]. Glue edges together, or tape. Place candle over cardboard tube. Reshape the Doily and Flame.
