The quantity of sts is multiple 4 + 1.
1st row (RS): skip 3ch (count as 1dc), 1dc into each ch to end, turn;
2nd row: 1ch, 1sc into each of first 2 sts, *working dc5tog into next st, 1sc into each of next 3 sts; rep from * to last 3 sts, working dc5tog into next st, 1sc into each of last 2 sts (including top of tch), turn;
3rd row: 3ch (count as 1dc), skip first st, 1dc into each st to end, skip tch, turn;
4th row: 1ch, 1sc into each of first 4 sts, *work dc5tog into next st, 1sc into each of next 3 sts; rep from * to the last ch st, sc into top of turn ch, turn;
5th row: 3ch (count as 1dc), skip first st, 1dc into each st to end, skip tch, turn.
Repeat 2nd-5th rows.

This is such a beautiful pattern. I would like to make a scarf that is 72" x 5" but I don't know how much yarn I'll need. Could you tell me how many yards it will take?
