Crochet  Scarf with Hood

You’ll need:

450 yards of Lion Brand Scarfie in color Charcoal/Aqua;

Crochet hook 5,5 mm;

Yarn needle.

Size: hood is 12 inches high and 9 1/4 inches wide when laid flat. The scarf is 70 inches long and 5 inches wide.

Instructions

1st row: Ch 39 + 2 for turning chain. 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each chain across until 1 ch is left, 5 hdc in the last chain. Do not turn your work, but continue to work along the opposite side of the foundation chain as shown in pic 1 above. 1 hdc in each free loop of the foundation ch to end. Make sure you insert your hook under the point where 2 loops cross each other to avoid leaving holes in your work, turn (81 sts);

2nd row (RS): Ch2(does not count as a st here and throughout), 1 dc in same st as ch 2, 1 dc in next, sk next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 dc in the skipped st. Give it some slack when you work this slanted dc or your work will pucker. *(sk next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 dc in the skipped st), repeat from * until you have 12 repeats of the slanted dc, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next 3 sts, 1 dc in next, *(sk next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 dc in the skipped st), repeat from * until 2 sts are left, 1 dc in last 2 sts, turn.  (84 sts);

3rd row: Ch 1( not counted as a st here and throughout), 1 sc in same st as ch 1, 1 sc in next 39 sts, 2 sc in next 4 sts, 1 sc in each of the remaining 40 sts, turn. (88 sts);

4th row: Ch 2, 1 dc in same st as ch 2, 1 dc in next, sk next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 dc in the skipped st, *(sk next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 dc in the skipped st), repeat from * until you have 2 sts left, 1 dc in the last 2 sts, turn. (88 sts) (28 repeats of slanted dc with 2 dc on either ends);

5th row: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as ch 1, 1 sc in each st across to end, turn. (88 sc).

Repeat rows 4 & 5 until you have completed 10 slanted dc rows and your hood is 8 1/2 inches wide, do not fasten off.

Next Row: Ch 2, 1 hdc in same st as ch 2, 1 hdc in each st across to end, turn. (88 hdc);

Last Row: Ch 2, 1 hdc in same st as ch 2 *(fphdc in next st, bphdc in next), repeat from * to last st, 1 hdc in last st. Fasten off.

Adding the Scarf

Note: If you want a longer scarf, you will add chains in multiples of 3 to each side.

1st row: Ch 85, now work along the base of the hood, work 65 sc evenly distributed along the base of the hood. Make 1 st across each sc row and 2 sc across each dc row on an average, ch 86, turn;

2nd row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch across until you reach the base of the hood, 1 sc across the 65 sts along the base of the hood, 1 sc in each chain across to end, turn. (235 sts);

3rd row: Ch 2, 1 dc in same st as ch 2, 1 dc in next, sk next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 dc in the skipped st, *(sk next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 dc in the skipped st), repeat from * until only 2 sts are left, 1 dc in the last 2 sts, turn. (235 sts);

4th row: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as ch 1, 1 sc in each st across to end, turn. (235 sc);

Repeat rows 3 & 4 until your scarf is 5 inches wide and you end in a sc row. Fasten off.

Giant Tassels

Make 4.

A 3 1/2-inches tall cardboard piece was used for making the tassel and each tassel was made of 28 wraps.

Assembly

Weave in any tails left. Attach the giant tassels to the 4 corners of your scarf.
