Crochet Lemon Bag
You’ll need:
1 ball of Red Heart® Super Saver® (7 oz/198 g; 364 yds/333 m) in Contrast A Bright Yellow (0324);
1 ball of the same yarn, but in Contrast B Soft White (0316);
Crochet hook 5 mm;
Tapestry needle.
Size: approx 16” [40.5 cm] wide x 18" [45.5 cm] tall.
Stitches control: 13 sc x 15 rows = 4" [10 cm].
Instructions
Note: Ch 2 at beg of row does not count as st.
Back and Front
With B, ch 13.
1st row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 1 dc.) 1 sc in each of next 9 ch. 4 dc in last ch. Working into opposite side of chain, 1 dc in each of next 10 ch. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 2. 2 dc in first st. 1 dc in each of next 7 sts. 2 dc in each of next 8 sts. 1 dc in each of next 7 sts. 2 dc in last st. Turn. 34 sts.
3rd row: Ch 2. 1 dc in each of next 12 sts. 2 dc in each of next 10 sts. 1 dc in each of last 12 sts. Turn. 44 sts.
4th row: Ch 2. 2 dc in first st. 1 dc in each of next 42 sts. 1 sc in last st. Turn. 46 sts.
5th row: Ch 2. 1 dc in ech of next 12 sts. 2 dc in each of next 22 sts. 1 dc in each of last 12 sts. Turn. 68 sts.
6th row: Ch 2. 2 dc in first st. 1 dc in each st to last st. 2 sc in last st. Turn. 70 sts.
7th row: Ch 2. 1 dc in each st to end of row. Turn.
8th row: Ch 2. (2 dc in next st. 1 dc in next st) 9 times. 1 dc in each of next 34 sts. (2 dc in next st. 1 dc in next st) 9 times. Turn. 88 sts.
9th and 10th rows: As 7th row. Break B. Join A.
11th to 13th rows: Ch 2. 1 dc in each st to end of row. Turn. Turn to work along top edge. Work 2 sc in each row along edge. 52 sts. Fasten off.
Assembly
With WS tog, place Front on top of Back. With A, working through both thicknesses, sl st curved edge of Tote tog.
When you reach the top opening of bag, work around circumference of opening as follows:
1st rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st around. Join with sl st to first sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 6 sts. Ch 40. Skip next 40 sts. 1 sc in each of next 12 sts. Ch 40. Skip next 40 sts. 1 sc in each of last 6 sts. Join with sl st to first sc.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 6 sc. 1 sc in next ch. 1 hdc in next ch. 1 dc in each of next 36 ch. 1 hdc in next ch. 1 sc in next ch. 1 sc in each of next 12 sts. 1 sc in next ch. 1 hdc in next ch. 1 dc in each of next 36 ch. 1 hdc in next ch. 1 sc in next ch. 1 sc in each of next 6 sts. Join with sl st to first sc.
4th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 7 sts. 1 hdc in next st. 1 dc in each of next 36 sts. 1 hdc in next st. 1 sc in each of next 14 sts. 1 hdc in next st. 1 dsc in each of next 36 sts. 1 hdc in next st. 1 sc in each of last 7 sts. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
Top Triangles
Make 4.
**With A, ch 4.
1st row: 1 dc in 3rd ch from hook. 1 dc in last ch. Turn. 2 sts.
2nd row: Ch 2. 2 dc in each st. Turn. 4 sts.
3rd row: Ch 2. 2 dc in first st. 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. 2 dc in last dc. Turn. 6 sts.
4th row: Ch 2. 2 dc in first st. 1 dc in each st to last st. 2 dc in last st. Turn. 8 sts. 5th to 9th rows: As 4th row. 18 sts.** Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Bottom Triangles
Make 4.
Work from ** to ** as given for Top Triangles.
10th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first st. 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts. 1 sc in each of next 10 sts. 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts. 1 sc in last st. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Seeds
Make 8.
With B, ch 4.
1st row: Sl st in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in next ch. (1 hdc. 1 sc) all in next ch. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Stitch Seeds onto Triangles, and Triangles onto Front and Back of Tote, as shown in photo.
