You’ll need:

Herrschner’s 2-ply Afghan Yarn in Cream, Leaf Green, Baby Yellow, light gray, white colors;

Crochet hook 2.25 mm;

Yarn needle;

Stuffing;

Craft glue;

1 small buttons;

Sewing needle and thread.

Size: about 7 inches tall.

For a larger doll, use 4-ply yarn and a size D aluminum hook.

Instructions

Body

Head and Torso

Row 1: With cream color yarn, chain 2. 10 sc in second chain from hook.

Row 2: 2 sc in each sc. 20 sc.

Row 3: 1 sc in each sc. 20 sc.

Row 4: (1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next) 10 times. 30 sc

Row 5: 1 sc in each sc. 30 sc

Row 6: (1 sc in each of first 2 sc, 2 sc in next) 10 times. 40 sc

Row 7: 1 sc in each sc. 40 sc

Row 8: 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 2 sc in next) 10 times. 50 sc

Row 9: 1 sc in each sc. 50 sc

Row 10: (1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 1 decrease) 10 times. 40 sc

Row 11: 1 sc in each sc. 40 sc

Row 12: (1 sc in each of first 2 sc, 1 decrease) 10 times. 30 sc

Row 13: 1 sc in each sc. 30 sc

Row 14: (1 sc combining next 2 sc) 15 times. 15 sc

Rows 15-18 (neck): 1 sc in each sc. 15 sc At this point, stuff head with polyester fiberfill. It will appear misshapen until it’s stuffed.

Row 19: (1 sc in first 2 sc, 2 sc in next) 5 times. 20 sc

Rows 20-26-: 1 sc in each sc. 20 sc. Row 27: (1 sc in next 3 sc, 1 decrease) 4 times. 16 sc

Row 28: 1 sc in each sc. 16 sc

Row 29: (1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 2 sc in next) 4 times. 20 sc

End piece. Stuff torso.


Shoes

Make 2

Row 1: With leaf green yarn, chain 2. 8 sc in second chain from hook.

Row 2: 2 sc in each sc. 16 sc

Row 3: Sc in first 6 sc. 2 hdc in each of next 4 sc. Sc in next 6 sc.

Row 4: Sc in each sc. 20 sc

Row 5: Sc in first 5 sc. Decrease 5 times. Sc in next 5 sc. 15 sc.

End.


Pom-Poms

You can use pre-made pom-poms or make your own.

To make pom-poms, cut 20 1-inch pieces of white yarn. Tie tightly in center with 2 four-inch pieces of white yarn. Trim yarn to about one-eighth inch from the knot, until it’s a round shape. Put a dot of glue on knot, so it doesn’t fall apart! Tie or glue pom-poms to shoes.


Legs

Make 2

In any stitch, attach cream color yarn to shoe.

Row 1: 1 sc in each sc, in inside loops only.

Row 2: (1 sc, decrease) 5 times. 10 sc.

Rows 3-15: Sc in each sc. End. (Ending stitch should be at back of leg.)

Stuff legs with polyester fiberfill.

Hips (underwear)

Row 1: Join leaf green yarn to ending stitch of one leg. Sc in first 3 sc. In next sc, draw yarn through, leaving loop on hook. Draw yarn through corresponding stitch on leg 2. Draw yarn through both loops on hook, combining legs. Sc in next 9 sc on leg 2. Draw yarn through same stitch used to combine legs, leaving loop on hook. Draw yarn through same combining stitch on leg 1. Draw yarn through both loops on hook. Sc in next 6 sc on leg 2. There should be 20 sc total around the tops of the legs.

Rows 2-5: 1 sc in each sc. End, leaving length for sewing. With yarn needle, sew torso and hips together, leaving an opening for stuffing.

Fill torso and hips with polyester fiberfill. Sew remaining stitches together.


Arms

Make 2

Row 1: With cream-color yarn, chain 2. 9 sc in second chain from hook.

Rows 2-18: 1 sc in each sc.

Row 19: 1 sc in each of next 8 sc. Chain 1, turn.

Row 20: 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. Chain 1, turn.

Row 21: 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Do not turn. In armhole opening, evenly sc 6 stitches.

Row 22: working in the 6 sc on row 21, decrease 2 times. Slip stitch in next sc and end.

Armhole should have 11 stitches around. Leave length for sewing. Stuff arms with polyester fiberfill. Sew arm to torso (top of arm should be on Row 19, bottom of arm on Row 22). Sew second arm to opposite side of torso.


Ears

Make 2

With cream yarn, chain 3. 2 sc in second chain from hook. 2 dc in next chain. End, leaving length for sewing. Sew ears to sides of head. Top of ear should be on Row 9, bottom of ear on Row 12. Weave in ends.

Dress (Starting at waist)

Bodice

Row 1: With leaf green yarn, chain 21. Sc in second chain from hook and in each chain. 20 sc. Chain 1, turn.

Row 2: 1 sc in each sc. End.

Row 3: Attach yarn in fourth sc from end on row 2. Sc in next 12 sc. Slip stich in next. Chain 1, turn.

Row 4: Skip slip stitch, sc in next 11 sc. Slip stitch in next. Chain one, turn.

Row 5: Skip slip stitch and first sc, sc in next 9 sc. Slip stitch in next. Chain one, turn.

Row 6: Skip slip stitch. Sc, hdc, 3 dc in next sc, hdc, slip stitch, hdc, 3 dc in next sc, hdc, sc, slip stitch. Single crochet around edges of entire piece. End, leaving length for sewing. Sew together in back. Weave in ends.


Skirt (starting at waist)

Row 1: Join yarn at back of bodice. 1 sc in each sc around. 22 sc.

Row 2: 2 sc, ( 3 sc, 2 sc in next) 5 times. 27 sc.

Rows 3-9: 1 sc in each sc. 27 sc. Row 10: (Sc, 3 dc in next, sc, slip stitch) 7 times. End. Pull dress onto doll, and tack into place if desired.

Hair

Cut 60 six-inch strands of baby yellow yarn. Tie in center with 3 10-inch strands.


Bun

Fold and smooth hair so you have a rounded end where the strands are tied together. Tightly tie a strand of contrasting yarn about three-quarters of an inch from the knot.

Tie hair to center of row 3 on the back of the head. Arrange hair evenly around head. Cut off straight at chin level on front. Part at side front, and apply craft glue from top of head to ear, one side at a time.

Arrange hair into place. On back of head, cut hair straight across at shoulder level. Apply craft glue to back of head and arrange hair. Trim hair, angling down from center of face toward shoulders on front, and feathering down from center of head toward neck on back of head. Trim straight across nape of neck. Eyes Sew two small green buttons 7 stitches apart on row 9 of head.

Wings

Upper wing – make 2

Row 1: With light gray yarn, chain 4. 2 dc in fourth chain from hook. Chain 3, turn.

Row 2: 1 dc in first dc, 1 dc in next, 2 dc in top of chain 4. 5 dc (counting chain 3 as one). Chain 3, turn.

Row 3: 1 dc in first 4 dc, 2 dc in next. 7 dc. Chain 3, turn.

Row 4: 1 dc in first 6 dc, 2 dc in next. 9 dc. Chain 3, turn.

Row 5-8: 1 dc in each dc. Chain 3, turn. 9 dc.

Row 9: Dc decrease 1 , 5 dc, dc decrease. Chain 2, turn. (7)

Row 10: Dc decrease 1, 3 dc, dc decrease. Chain 2, turn. (5)

Row 11: Dc decrease 1, 1 dc, dc decrease. Chain 2, turn. (3)

Row 12: Cluster (combine all three stitches into one.) Single crochet around entire piece. End, leaving length for sewing.

Lower wing – make 2

Row 1: With light gray yarn, chain 4. 3 dc in fourth chain from hook. Chain 3, turn.

Row 2: 1 dc in first dc, 2 dc in next, 2 dc in top of chain 4. 6 dc (counting chain 3 as one). Chain 3, turn.

Rows 3-4: 1 dc in each dc. Chain 3, turn.

Row 5: Dc decrease, 2 dc, dc decreaase. Chain 2, turn. (4) Single crochet around entire piece. End. Sew upper wings onto back (rows 22-24). Sew lower wings on top of upper wings.
