Materials:

Any medium worsted weight yarn.
Size I hook
Blunt needle
buttons (12 total)
Sewing needle
threading floss (to sew on buttons)

Contacting yarn for garland and presents

Abbreviations:

ch- chain
hk- hook
sc- single crochet
st(s)- stitch(es)
sc2tog- single crochet 2 together
sl st- slip stitch
dc- double crochet

Toddler Pattern:

For the cuff:
Ch 8
Row 1-14: Sc in back loops, ch 1, turn. (9)
Fold in half and sl st ends together through both loops.
Right and left mitten:
Row 1: Ch 1, evenly space 18 sc around (18).
*Continue to work in the round, add stitch marker here to keep track of rows.*
Row 2: sc 10, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, 5 sc (20).
Row 3: sc 10, 2 sc, sc, 2sc, 7 sc (22).
Row 4: sc 10, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, 9 sc (24).
Row 5: sc 10, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, 11 sc (26).
Row 6: sc 10, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, 13 sc (28).
Row 7: sc 8, skip 8 sts (for thumb), sc 12 (20).
Row 8-11 : sc in each st around (20).
Row 12: sc 9, sc2tog, sc 9, sc2tog (18).
Row 13: sc 8, sc2tog, sc 8, sc2tog (16).
Row 14: sc 7, sc2tog, sc 7, sc2tog (14).
Row 15: sc 6, sc2tog, sc 6, sc2tog (12).
Row 16: sc 5, sc2tog, sc 5, sc2tog (10).

Row 17: sc 4, sc2tog, sc 4, sc2tog (8).
Row 18: sc 3, sc2tog, sc 3, sc2tog (6).
Row 19: sc 2, sc2tog, sc 2, sc2tog (4).
Row 20: sc2tog twice.

Fasten off, weave in end. The pattern is the same for the right and left mitten, just make sure to decorate the mittens when the thumbs are facing each other.

Thumb:

Insert hook in first and last st of the 8 sc sts and pull up a lp.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in 8 sts around, join (8).

*You will continue to work in the round.*

Row 2-4: sc in each st (8).
Row 5: Sc2tog 4 times, fasten off and weave in end. Turn thumb inside out and fasten off on inside with blunt needle.

Present:

Ch 4
Row 1: sc in second ch from the hook and next 2 sts.
Row 2-3: sc in each st across.
Sl st around (3 sl sts on each side) and fasten off.
Cut a separate piece of yarn and tie a bow, sew on top of present with blunt needle. Cut a separate piece of yarn and with blunt needle sew on package to create bow.

For adult mittens:

Ch 6
Row 1: sc in second ch from the hook and next 4 sts.
Row 2-5: sc in each st across.
Sl st around (5 sl sts on each side) and fasten off.
For straight bow on package, take contrasting yarn and sl st across to form a +. Cut a piece of yarn for bow on top and sew package on mitten cuff with blunt needle.

Construction:

Slip stitch surface crochet for the garland on the tree and fasten off on the inside of mitten. Sew on buttons and star with sewing needle.
Sew on present with blunt needle. Weave in any loose ends.
