You’ll need:

Red Heart Super Saver yarn;

Crochet hook 5 mm;

Stuffing for tree base.

Note:

Join rounds with sl st to beg st. Ch1 or Ch2 at beginning of round does not count as a stitch, unless noted.

Instructions

Base Cone

Round 1: Start with Magic Circle, work 8hdc in center, join, pull tail tightly to close the loop.

Round 2: Ch1, hdc in each st to end, join. (8 hdc)

Round 3: Ch1, [hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st] to end, join. (12 hdc)

Round 4: Ch1, hdc in each st to end, join. (12 hdc)

Round 5: Ch3 (counts as hdc + ch1), skip 1, [hdc next st, ch1, skip 1] to end, join. (12 sts = 6 ch1 spaces + 6 hdc)

Round 6: Ch1, [hdc next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st] to end, join. (16 hdc)

Round 7: Ch1, hdc in each st to end, join. (16 hdc)

Round 8: Ch3 (counts as hdc + ch1), skip 1, [hdc next st, ch1, skip 1] to end, join. (16 sts = 8 ch1 spaces + 8 hdc)

Round 9: Ch1, [hdc next 3 sts, 2hdc in next st] to end, join. (20 hdc)

Round 10: Ch1, hdc in each st to end, join. (20 hdc)

Round 11: Ch3 (counts as hdc + ch1), skip 1, [hdc next st, ch1, skip 1] to end, join. (20 sts = 10 ch1 spaces + 10 hdc)

Round 12: Ch1, [hdc next 4 sts, 2hdc in next st] to end, join. (24 hdc)

Round 13 & Round 14: Ch1, hdc in each st to end, join. Fasten off after Round 14 (24 hdc)

Branches

For tree top and first branch:

Round 1: Ch2, work 4sc in 1st ch, do not join. (4 sc)

Round 2: Work 2sc in each sc, do not join. (8 sc)

Round 3: Work [1sc in next st, 2sc in next st] 4 times, do not join. (12 sc)

Round 4: Work (sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st] 4 times, do not join. (16 sc)

Round 5: Work (sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st] 4 times, join. (20 sc)

Round 6: [Ch3, skip3, sl st in next st] to end, join. (5 ch3 loops)

Round 7: Ch2, [dc, ch2, dc] in center of each ch3 loop to end, join to top of first dc.

Round 8: Ch2, [2dc, ch2, 2dc, ch1] in each ch2 space to end, join to top of first dc

Round 9: Ch1, *[3dc, ch3, sl st in first ch to form picot, ch1, hdc, 2dc] in next ch 2 space, sc in next ch1*, repeat between * to end, join to top of first dc. Fasten off.

Remaining Branches

Work next branches in hdc of Rounds 5, 8 & 11 on the Base Cone.

Round 1: Join with sl st around hdc of designated rounds of Cone, [ch3, sl st around next hdc] to end, join.

Round 2: Ch2, [dc, ch2, dc] in center of each ch3 loop to end, join to top of first dc.

Round 3: Ch2, [2dc, ch2, 2dc, ch1] in each ch2 space to end, join to top of first dc.

Round 4: Ch1, *[3dc, ch3, sl st in first ch to form picot, ch1, hdc, 2dc] in next ch 2 space, sc in next ch1*, repeat between * to end, join to top of first dc. Fasten off.

Base Disk

Round 1: Start with Magic Circle, work 8hdc in center, join, pull tail tightly to close the loop.

Round 2: Ch1, 2hdc in each st, join. (16 hdc)

Round 3: Ch1, [hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st] to end, join. DO NOT FASTEN OFF. (24 hdc]

Assembly

Stuff tree cone with fiber-fill or other stuffing material until it is firm.

To close bottom, line up disk with last row of cone, join yarn through both layers, [sc next st, 2sc next st] to end, join. Fasten off.

Sew top layer of branches to the top of the cone.

Leave the tree plain or add beads, buttons, sequins, etc to decorate.
