You’ll need:

150g of Bernat Premium yarn in Chocolate Tweed color;

50g of Bernat Super Value yarn in Mushroom color;

Small amount of Bernat Super Value in Black for nose and mouth;

Crochet hook 3,25 mm;

12 mm safety eyes;

Stuffing;

Tapestry needle.

Used Patterns

Chlp – Chain Loop Stitch. To complete one chlp st: sc into the next stitch, ch 6.

Chlp dec – Chain Loop Decrease. A chain loop decrease is made by working a regular sc decrease, and then chaining 6.

Chlp inc – Chain Loop Increase. Work two chlp sts into the same st (i.e. [ sc, ch 6, sc, ch 6] all in the same st)

Example Chain Loop Row:

The chain loop stitch is worked in sets of 2 rows.

For example, you will see something like this: Bchlp, B, M29, Bchlp, B (33)

This means that you will start with Brown yarn and do one chlp stitch (i.e. [sc, ch 6]) then you will make one sc in the next stitch in Brown. Then, in Mushroom, do 29 regular sc stitches, then one more chlp st (i.e. [sc, ch 6]) and finish the row with one sc stitch in Brown in the last stitch.

When working on a row following a chain loop row (i.e. when the back of the panel is facing you), you will be securing the chain loops from the previous row that you just did. So, you will see something like this: B2, M29, B2 (33)

The second row is just regular sc stitches. You will crochet into the sc sts only of the previous row (i.e. the stitches between the chains). You will not be crocheting into the chains at all.

*Also*, you will need to move your working yarn between the loops for each stitch to ensure that the chain loops remain on the front of the panel.

Instructions

From the Front:

Step 1: Sc into next st.

Step 2: Chain 6.

Back to step 1! Sc in next st.

Insert hook into sc (not chs)

Move your working yarn between the loops and complete the sc.

Arms

Make 2 panels.

In Mushroom using a 3.25mm hook.

Row 1: Ch 4, sc across (3 sts)

Row 2: Inc, sc, inc (5 sts)

Rows 3-8: Sc across (5 sts)

Do not tie off. Ch 1 and sc around down the side, around the curve and up the other side and tie off.

Repeat rows 1-8 for second panel. With brown yarn, make two vertical stitches on the end of each arm to create toes. Tie off.

Assembly

Face and Arms

We need to sew on the face and body features to the front panel.

It doesn’t matter what you start with. Position the arms so that they are about half-way between the curve of the neck/head and the feet. Point them inward toward each other slightly. With a length of Mushroom yarn, stitch all around the arms to secure them to the front panel. Tie a knot on the back to secure.

Next, using Brown yarn, make two stitches on each foot to create toes, the same way you did for the arms earlier.

Insert 12mm safety eyes about half-way between the top curve of the cheek and the curve of the neck. I counted in about 6 of the Mushroom stitches from each side and inserted the eyes. Feel free to stitch on happy or sleepy eyes if you prefer!

Using black yarn, stitch on a nose by making an upside down triangle shape and then making a few horizontal stitches across the top .

Finally, stitch on the mouth and cheeks.

Body

The final assembly of this one is super easy because there is no more sewing and only a little bit of colour-changing for the feet!

Place the two body panels together, matching up all sides. Make sure the front is facing you as you crochet around.

Starting on the top of the head on the left side, begin attaching the panels together by chaining one and single crocheting around the outside of the panels in Brown.

Stop when you get to the bottom, before the first foot.

Switch to Mushroom and continue crocheting around the first foot. Switch back to Brown after the first foot and then back to Mushroom for the second foot.

Switch back to Brown when you reach the other side. Continue crocheting up the body. Stop about half way up the body.

Stuff the body. Make sure to push it right down into the feet.

Now, picking up where you left off, continue single crocheting up the body and around the top of the head. Top up stuffing as you go.

Close with a slst to first st. Tie off. With your tapestry needle, poke the yarn tail back inside the piece.
