Instructions
Please note: the cutting procedure is described here, in which only one type of fabric is used. At the same time, large blanks are first cut out and duplicated, and then strips are cut from them. If you use different types of fabric or you have flaps that are not enough for large workpieces, adjust this step.
Find the details:
* from fabric:
- for a strip going from above along the perimeter of the basket - 1 piece 20x120.5 cm;
- for strips that go along the perimeter of the basket - 2 parts 22x120.5 cm;
- for strips that go along the long side of the basket - 2 parts 32x71 cm;
- for strips that go across the width of the basket - 2 parts 27x77.5;
* from duplicate material:
- 1 part 5x119.5 cm;
- 1 piece 22x120.5 cm;
- 1 piece 32x71 cm;
- 1 part 27x77.5.
If the length of the duplicate material is not enough, connect the flaps in a zigzag pattern. If there is not enough length of fabric flaps, grind them, leaving 0.5 cm allowances, which are then ironed.
The same fabric parts must be joined together by gluing with duplicate material. The procedure is as follows. Put an iron on the ironing board, on top - a part made of duplicate material, on top - a piece of fabric of the wrong size, with the wrong side down. Turn on the iron for a little heat and lightly walk along the fabric, without lingering for a long time in one place and without pressing the iron too much, do not use steam. You need to glue the layers together. Then turn the job up with duplicate material. On top, lay the second appropriate-sized piece of fabric with the wrong side down. Now you can heat the iron more and iron the entire “sandwich” by properly gluing the fabric and duplicating material. Do not worry if the fabric and the backing material move slightly relative to each other: the dimensions of the blanks are given with a small margin.
So prepare three blanks for strips (all but blank for the upper strip).
Cut the resulting workpieces into strips 5 cm wide.
Total result:
- 4 strips 5x120.5 cm;
- 6 strips 5x71 cm;
- 5 strips 5x77.5 cm.
For strength along the long sides of the strips, you can lay a line, departing from the edge of 2 mm.
Fold the part for the upper strip of the basket along the inside in half and iron it. Then unfold the part, fold the edges, aligning them with the central fold, and iron. Insert a strip of duplicate material inside one of the bends and iron it well by gluing the layers together.
Fold the part across so that the joint remains outside. Align the short edges, pin with a pin and grind, leaving allowances of 0.5 cm.
Flatten the seam. Fold the strip in half lengthwise so that the joint remains inside. Sew stitches along both long edges 0.5 cm from the edge.
For 4 strips 5x120.5 cm in size, cut the short edges so that the length of each stripe is 119.5 cm. Close each of the strips into a ring, aligning the short edges butt and stitching it twice with a zigzag.
Begin weaving from the remaining stripes.
Weave all the stripes: 5 long horizontal and 6 shorter than vertical. Slide the strips so that there are no gaps between them. This is the bottom of the basket.
Now weave one strip at a time, sewn into a ring. Hold them in place with clamps.
Slide the strips tight so that there are no gaps between them.
Weave in the last strip, push all the strips tightly and cut off the excess. Secure all strips with clips.
Sew a line along the edge, stapling all the strips. Distance from edge 1.2 cm.
Cut out 2 parts for 4x27 cm handles from leather. Install a leather needle in the machine and sew the handles with two seams, as shown in the photo.
Put a trim strip on top of the basket.
Align the edges and glue the strip with a hot glue gun.
