dec. Leaving last loop of each stitch on hook, pull up loop on next 2 stitches, yrh and pull through 3 loops.
Base of ch. Work into first stitch

Size to fit: 3-6 month baby

Materials

For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-
30 grams of King Cole Baby DK in colour 1
15 grams of King Cole Baby DK in colour 2
4.00mm crochet hook, 1 large plain button

You can for a:-
0-3 month use a 3.50mm hook
6-12 month use a 4.50mm hook.
TENSION – 4tr & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

UK INSTRUCTIONS:
Worked in rounds without turning.
With colour 1 make magic circle, work 3ch, (1tr, 1ch, 2tr) into ring, * (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into ring, * rpt from * to * a further 4 times more, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round. (23tr, six 1ch spaces + 3ch)

2nd Round – ss to first 1ch space, make 3ch, work (1tr, 1ch, 2tr) into same 1ch space, * miss 2tr, work 1tr between next 2tr, miss 2tr, work (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into next 1ch space * rpt from * to * to end, miss 2tr, work 1tr between 2tr and 3ch, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round.
3rd Round – ss to first 1ch space, make 3ch, work (1tr, 1ch, 2tr) into same 1ch space, * miss 2tr, work 1tr between next tr, 1tr into tr, 1tr between next tr, miss 2tr, work (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into next 1ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, miss 2tr, work 1tr between next tr, 1tr into tr, 1tr between next tr and 3ch, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round.
4th & 5th Rounds – Rpt 3rd Round increasing tr’s in the same way between shells until there are 7 single tr between.
6th to 10th Rounds – ss to first 1ch space, make 3ch, work (1tr, 1ch, 2tr) into same 1ch space, * miss 2tr, 1tr into each of next 7tr, miss 2tr, work (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into next 1ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, miss 2tr, work 1tr into each of next 7tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round. Fasten off at the end of the 10th Round.

Peak – With RS facing join colour 2 to single tr after one of the shells, make 1ch, work 1dc in the stitch at the base of 1ch, 1dc into next 8tr, 1dc into ch space, 1dc into each of the next 9tr. Turn.
Second Row – 1ch, dec 1dc over first 2dc (see abbrev) 1dc into each dc to last 2dc, dec 1dc over last 2dc. Turn.
Rpt Second Row until 7dc remain.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of 1ch, work one row of 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off. Turn.
Border Round – With WS facing join colour 2 at base of peak on left hand side of cap, work 1dc into each tr and 1ch space to base of peak on right hand side, 1dc into each of 8 row ends up first side of peak, 1dc into each of the 7dc along the top of peak, 1dc into each of the 8 row ends down second side of peak, ss to first dc on beginning of round. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of 1ch, work one row of 1dc in each dc around peak and cap to end, ss to the first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.
Crown Button – With colour 2, make 8ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (7dc)
Turning at the end of each row and starting with 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of 1ch, work five rows of 1dc in each dc. Fasten off. Leave a long length of yarn to gather with.
Thread yarn evenly all around through dc, place large fish eye button in center and gather around it tightly, secure so that button cannot break free.
Place button over hole at crown on cap and sew into position.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn.
