SUPPLIES

  • Crochet hooks G/4.00mm
  • Tapestry needle (I use Clover Chibi Bent Tip Needle Set)
  • Worsted weight cotton yarn, I used the following:
    • Lily Sugar’n Cream, Soft Ecru (Off White, color A)
    • Lily Sugar’n Cream, Faded Denim (Blue Ombre, color B)
    • Lily Sugar’n Cream, Indigo (Denim/Navy Blue, color C)

NOTES

  • Coaster measures approx. 4 inches wide.
  • Changing colors: Pick up the new color and join by pulling up a loop in the stitch after the sl st join of the previous round.
  • Gauge is not essential – just keep your tension consistent throughout.

ABBREVIATIONS

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double

crochet dc = double  crochet

2-dc cluster = 2-double crochet cluster stitch

3-dc cluster = 3-double crochet cluster stitch

SPECIAL STITCHES

2-Double Crochet Cluster Stitch:

Step #1. Start with a dc st, but do not pull through the last 2 loops (you should have 2 loops remain on the hook).

Step #2. In the same st, rep step #1 with working a dc but pulling through only the first 2 loops (you should have 3 loops remain on the hook).

Step #3. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on the hook.

3-Double Crochet Cluster Stitch:

Step #1. Start with a dc st, but do not pull through the last 2 loops (you should have 2 loops remain on the hook).

Step #2. In the same st, rep step #1 with working a dc but pulling through only the first 2 loops (you should have 3 loops remain on the hook).

Step #3. In the same st, rep step #1 again (you should have 4 loops remain on the hook).

Step #4. Lastly, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on the hook.

One cluster completed! In summary, you’re starting a cluster of 3 dc stitches in the same stitch, but not finishing any of them until the end.
