Be sure to go through the instructions and photos before starting.
Unless otherwise stated, this pattern is worked in continuous rounds using stitch markers to locate the beginning/end of a round. Work in somewhat tight stitches. It might be easier to attach antlers and nose to body before it's stuffed and closed.
Secure safety eyes between Rounds 10 and 11.
Note: If children under the age of three are going to play with this reindeer embroider the eyes with scrap black yarn or black embroidery thread as safety eyes pose a choking hazard.
If using felt for the nose, attach the nose to the felt piece first and then sew the felt to the body.
You can make the reindeer bigger (or smaller) by changing the hook size and yarn weight.
Antlers, make 2
With Walnut (dark brown yarn) and 3.00mm hook
Round 1: make 6sc in magic ring
Rounds 2-3: sc in each st around (6 sts)
Cut yarn and weave in ends.
For the second antler repeat Rounds 1-3 but do not cut yarn.
Round 4: Join with the first piece and sc in each st (12sts)
Round 5: complete the following [sc in next 2sts, dec] x 3 (9sts)
Round 6: complete the following [sc in next st, dec] x 3 (6sts)
Rounds 7-8: sc in each st around.
Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.
Nose
With Red yarn and 3.00mm hook
Round 1: make 5sc in magic ring
Round 2: inc in each st (10sts)
Round 3: sc in each st around (10 sts)
Round 4: dec x 5 (5sts)
Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.
If using felt, sew the nose to the piece of felt and then sew the felt onto the body.
Body
With Topaz (light brown yarn) and 3.75mm hook
Round 1: make 6sc in magic ring
Round 2: inc in each st (12sts)
Round 3: complete the following [inc3, sc in next 2sts] x 4 (20sts)
Round 4: sc in next st, complete the following [inc3, sc in next 4sts] x 3, inc3, sc in next 3sts (28sts)
Round 5: sc in next 2sts, complete the following [inc3, sc in next 6sts] x 3, inc3, sc in next 4sts (36sts)
Round 6: sc in next 3sts, complete the following [inc, sc in next 8sts] x 3, inc, sc in next 5sts (40sts)
Rounds 7-17: sc in each st around (40 sts) Attach safety eyes between Rounds 10 and 11
Round 18: sc in next 3 sts, complete the following [skip 5sts, sc in next 5sts] x 3, skip 5sts, sc in next 2sts
Round 19: sc in each st and switch between light brown yarn in each stitch and dark brown yarn for the skipped stitches (this creates the legs and hooves). Cut dark brown but do not cut light brown yet. Start stuffing the body and attach safety eyes if you are using them.
Round 20: ignoring dark brown stitches, dec x 10 (10sts)
Round 21: complete the following [sc in next st, dec] x 3, sc in next st (7sts) Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Option to sew the small opening in each hoof or leave as is.
