Materials:
G Hook
Small amount of brown and yellow worsted weight yarn
Blue worsted weight yarn( any shade preferred)

NOTE: Always skip a dc between stitches in brown circle.
HCDC = Holy Cow Double Crochet
HCDC1: Yo 10 times of hook, insert hook through front of nearest dc of brown circle. Yo and draw up a loop. *YO and draw through 2 loops on hook.* Repeat from * to * until one loop remains on hook.
HCDC2: Yo 7 times of hook, insert hook through front of nearest dc of brown circle. Yo and draw up a loop. *YO and draw through 2 loops on hook.* Repeat from * to * until one loop remains on hook.

Square background
With blue:

Ch 5 and join in 1st ch to make a circle.

Round 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ch 5 circle, * ch 3, 3 dc in ch 5 circle,* repeat from * to * 2 more times. Ch 3 and join in top of 1st ch 3 . Sl st to next ch 3 space.

Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in corner ch 3 space. Ch 2, * 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 2 in next ch 3 space.* Repeat from * to * twice and join in top of ch 3. Sl st to next ch 3 space.

Round 3: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 2 in corner ch 3 space. * 3 dc, ch 2 in ch 2 space, 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 2 in corner ch 3 space.* Repeat from * to * twice. Join in top of ch 3. Sl st to next ch 3 space.

Round 4: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 2, in ch 3 corner space. 3 dc, ch 2 in next ch 2 space. *3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 2 in ch 3 corner. 3 dc, ch 2 in each of next 2 - ch 2 spaces. * Repeat from * to * twice. Join in top of ch 3, sl st to next ch 3 corner.

Round 5: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 2 in ch 3 corner. 2 dc, ch 2 in next 3 - ch 2 space. Ch 2 * 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 2 in next ch 3 corner. 3 dc, ch 2 in next 3 - ch 2 spaces. Ch 2.* Repeat from * to * twice. Join in top of ch 3. Fasten off.

Sunflower center
With brown:

Leave a 6 inch tail. Ch 5. Join in 5th chain from hook to form circle. Ch 3, do 14 dc in circle and join in top of ch 3. Fasten off also leaving 6 inch tail.

Attach brown center to center of square with the 2 - 6 inch tails leaving end behind square to weave in later.

Edge of square and sunflower petals
With yellow:

Round 6: 2 sc in any ch 3 corner. * Do HCDC1 into nearest dc in brown circle. Do 2 sc in same corner. Sc in next 3 dc, 2 sc in ch 2 space, sc in next 3 dc, 2 sc in ch 2 space, sc in next 2 dc. HCDC2 in brown circle(see note), sc in next dc, 2 sc in next ch 2 sp, sc in next 3 dc. 2 sc in corner* Repeat from * to * 3 times not doing last 2 sc in corner. Join to 1st sc. Fasten off and weave all ends in.

Daisy Variation: Use yellow instead of brown for center and white instead of yellow for petals and border.

Poinsettia Variation: Use yellow instead of brown for center and red instead of yellow for petals and border. Use pine green for the square.
