Materials

Dk / weight 3 yarn I used Paintbox Simply DK in Slate Green for the background colour (276 metres per 100g) and various different colours for the animals.

4ply yarn in black and white for the eyes on the 4, 5 and 6.5”

3 and 4 mm crochet hooks

Needle

sc =single crochet (double crochet UK)

hdc =half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc = double crochet (treble crochet UK)

tr = treble crochet (double treble crochet UK)

sc2tog / sc3tog = sc 2/3 stitches together (double crochet 2/3 stitches together)

slst = slip stitch

blo = back loop only (crochet into the back loop of the stitch

[ ] = in the same stitch

* * = repeat between

ch = chain

Loop stitch

Gauge

9 dc x 4 rows = 2” x 2”

Eyes

If making small, medium and large use a 3mm hook and black 4 ply yarn.

If making extra large use dk black yarn and 4mm hook

Round 1: In a magic circle, ch1, 6 sc, slst to the first and pull tight. (6)

Fasten off with a long end for sewing, sew one white line for small, medium and large and two white lines for extra large.

Badger

Make the circle white

Small 4” / Medium 5” square

EARS

Make two starting with black

Round 1: Make a magic circle, ch1, 6 sc into the circle, pull tight. (6) Turn

Change to white

Round 2: ch1, sc 1, [2 sc] in the next 4, sc 1. (10) Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

EYE PATCH

Make two using black

Row 1: ch4, sc in the second chain from the hook, sc 2. (3) Turn

Row 2-3: ch1, sc 3. (3) Turn

Row 4: ch1, sc2tog, sc 1, sc2tog. (3) Turn

Row 5-6: ch1, sc 3. (3) Turn

Row 7: ch1, sc2tog, sc 1. (2) Turn

Row 8: ch1, sc2tog. (1) Fasten off with a long end for sewing. Sew the eyes onto the patch, then sew in place.

NOSE

Using black

Make a magic circle, ch1, 6 sc into the circle, slst to the first and pull tight. (6) Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Large 6.5” square

EARS

Make two starting with black

Round 1: Make a magic circle, ch1, 8 sc into the circle, pull tight. (8) Turn

Change to white

Round 2: ch1, sc 1, [2 sc] in the next 6, sc 1. (14) Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

EYE PATCH

Make two using black

Row 1: ch5, sc in the second chain from the hook, sc 3. (4) Turn

Row 2-3: ch1, sc 4. (4) Turn

Row 4: ch1, sc2tog, sc 2. (3) Turn

Row 5-6: ch1, sc 3. (3) Turn

Row 7: ch1, sc2tog, sc 1. (2) Turn

Row 8-9: ch1, sc 2. (2) Turn

Row 10: ch1,sc2tog. (1) Fasten off with a long end for sewing. Sew eyes onto the patch, then sew in place.

NOSE

Using black
