With 4mm hook
Row1 Ch12, dc in 4th ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn
Row2-4 ch1, dc in base of ch1, dc 8. (9) Turn
Square should measure 5 x 5cm.
If you're out with a 4mm hook try a larger hook.

Newborn ch 55 (52 stitches on each row)

Using a 4mm hook
Row1 Chain the required amount of stitches for the size you want, dc in the forth chain from the hook and each stitch across. Turn
Row2 ch1, dc in base of ch1, dc all. Turn
Row3 ch1, sc in same, sc 2, bs, *sc2, bs* repeat to last 3 and sc each.
Row4-5 ch1, dc in base of ch1, dc all. Turn
Fasten off with a long end for sewing.
Fold in half at each side, place together as shown in the 4th picture, sew just the centre, with 4 or 5 stitches. Then flatten and sew the opposite direction. Turn back the right way.
