What you need

Small amount of size 10 crochet thread
US 1 / 2.35mm crochet hook

Instructions

16-point coaster

Row 1: ch5, join w/sl-st to first ch to form ring
Row 2: ch3 (counts as dc), (dc in ring) 15 times, join w/sl-st in first dc [16 dcs]
Row 3: sl-st in space between dc, ch3 (counts as dc), (ch1, dc in next ch-1 sp) 15 times, ch1, join w/sl-st to first dc [16 dcs, 16 spaces]
Row 4: sl-st in next ch1 sp, ch3 (counts as dc), (ch2, dc in same sp, dc in next ch-1 sp) around, join w/sl-st to first dc.
Row 5: sl-st in ch2 sp. (3sc in sp) around. join w/sl-st to first sc
Row 6: ch2 (counts as sc), *(hdc, dc, hdc) in next sc, (sc in next sc) twice, repeat from * around, join w/sl-st to first sc.
Row 7: sl-st in hdc, ch2 (counts as sc), *3dc in dc, sc in hdc, sc next 2scs together, sc in hdc, repeat from * around, join w/sl-st to first sc.
Row 8: sl-st to middle dc of 3, ch 2 (counts as sc), (ch7, sc in middle dc of 3) around, ch7, join to first sc [16 loops]
Row 9: sl-st into ch7 loop, ch 2 (counts as sc), (4sc, ch 3, 5sc) in loop, *(5sc, ch3, 5sc) in next loop, repeat from * around, join to first sc.

Finishing: Break off and weave in ends. For best results, block by wetting thoroughly and pinning points in place to dry.

11-point coaster

Row 1: ch5, join w/sl-st to form ring.
Row 2: ch3 (counts as dc), dc 21 in ring [22 dcs]
Row 3: ch2 (counts as sc), sc in each dc around, join w/sl-st to first sc.
Row 4: ch3 (counts as dc), (ch4, skip 2 dcs, dc in next dc) around, ch4, join w/sl-st to first dc. [10dcs, 10 spaces]
Row 5: sl-st in ch4 sp. ch3 (counts as dc), dc4 in same sp, (dc5 in ch5 sp) around, join w/sl-st to first dc. [50 dcs]
Row 6: ch2 (counts as sc), sc in each dc around, join w/sl-st to first sc. [50 scs]
Row 7: ch2 (counts as sc), *ch1, skip 2scs, sc in next sc, ch5, skip 2scs, sc in next sc, repeat from * around, ch1, join w/sl-st to first sc. [11 ch5 spaces, 11 ch1 spaces]
