Materials Used:
  • N – 9.0 mm crochet hook
  • 2 skeins Lion Brand Hometown USA – Oakland Black
  • 2 skeins Lion Brand Hometown USA – Dallas Grey
  • 2 handles (I used Purse n-alize-it! Handbag Handles, 22 in. faux leather handles in black)
  • Small amount of #4 worsted weight yarn in black (for sewing handles on)
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends and sewing on handles
  • Stitch marker (a paper clip will also work)
Abbreviations:

ch(s) = chain(s)
st(s) = stitch(es)
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
pf = puff stitch (see description below)
American crochet terms used throughout

Special Stitches Used:

Puff Stitch (pf): (Yarn over and draw up a loop) 4 times, draw yarn through all 9 loops. (Please note that this pattern does NOT call for a ch 1 to close the puff stitch).

Gauge:

4″ x 4″ = 9 sc, 10 rows

Finished Size Approximately:

Body of bag =16.5″ wide, 11″ tall

Crochet Hexagon Handbag – Free Pattern

Instructions:

Work in continuous rounds without chaining between rounds. Use a stitch marker (or paper clip) to mark the beginning of each round.

Round 1:

With black, ch 35, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each st across, 3 sc in last st, sc in each st across opposite side ending with a sc in the 1st ch. (70 sts)

Round 2:

Sc in 1st st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of the next 32 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of the next 33 sts. (73 sts)

Rounds 3-8:

Sc in each st around.

After completion of Round 8, sc in two more sts to reach corner. Change to grey.

Round 9:

Sc in each st around.

Round 10:

Sc in east st around.

Round 11:

Hdc in each of next 5 sts, [pf next st, sc next st] 3 times, hdc in each of next 5 sts, [pf next st, sc next st] 3 times, hdc in each of next 5 sts, [pf next st, sc next st] 3 times, hdc in each of next 8 sts, [pf next st, sc next st] 3 times, hdc in each of next 5 sts, [pf next st, sc next st] 3 times, hdc in each of next 5 sts, [pf next st, sc next st] 3 times, hdc in each of last 4 sts.
