How did you start your knitting or crochetting experience?

Ladies!

I decided, that we should also chat here, not just sharing the patterns.

This post I'd like to devote to my knitting experience and how I've come to it. I'd like to read your stories in the comments, so, please, support my idea.

When I was about 12, I saw my granny crochetting very nice flowered blanket. I knew, that she loved to knit and crochet, but before this I'd never paid any attention. But when I saw how easily and professionally her hands move, and flowers appeared from the threads of yarn, I wanted to do the same. I asked her to show me how she made such beautiful flowers, and she showed. She didn't say, that they were too difficult for me and I should start with more simple patterns, no. She showed me how to crochet this flower. I was so thankful, that helped me to believe in myself. Of course, I couldn't make them from the first attempt, but finally I got it! She was so proud of me. Thank you, grandma!

I shared with you some part of me and my life and will be very pleased to read your stories.

P.S. It's not my photo, just an illustration with a girl.

My daughter asked me to make a toy for her, so I started to search the Internet.

I've started knitting not so long ago. I wanted a Takori hat and decided to try it myself, find the tutorial in the Internet, and it was my first work. Then I made it for my sister, mom and some friends

I started knitting at age 8 and was discouraged when my scarf came out a triangle. I love my Nonna's knit items but the language barrier was a tad difficult so I gave up. At 25 yrs old my boyfriend's friends mother gave him a 1900 pattern magazine. I had to learn how to read them and the rest is history. This time I worked through the learning curve, my piles of knit (my way of saying knit disasters) and was able to follow my Nonna by recording her stitching. I could never imagine giving up now and am proud I'm continuing my great grandmother's profession as a knitter (crochet, sewing and embroidery).

My thing was sewing from a very young age. My mother crocheted beautiful doilies but when I lived at home I had no interest in knitting or crocheting. When I finally had the desire, I found the best way for me to learn was to get a simple How To book & teach myself. Biggest problem was getting the tension right. Once I mastered that I was on my way. I think I have down nearly every kind of needle work there is.
