Simple Crochet Socks
You’ll need:
Finger weight sock yarn;
Crochet hook B.
Instructions
Toe
Chain 8
Round 1: 3 sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in the next 5 chain, 3 sc in the last chain, working on the opposite side of the foundation, sc in the free loop on the next 5 chain, (16 sc)
Round 2: working in continuous rounds, sc in next sc, 3 sc in the next sc, sc in next 7 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in the next 7 sc, (20 sc)
Rounds 3-9: work 2 sc increase at each side of the foot, work sc across toes (24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, sc)
Shell Pattern
Row 1: sc in next stitch (mark this stitch), skip 2 sc, 5 dc in next stitch (shell made) *skip 2 sc, sc in next stitch, skip 2 sc, shell in next stitch* around (Eight shells)
Row 2: sc in the marked stitch (mark stitch) and in each stitch around
Row 3: shell in marked sc, mark the first dc in the shell, *skip 2 sc, sc in the next sc, skip 2 sc, shell in next sc * around, end with skip 2 sc and sc in next stitch
Row 4: sc in the marked stitch (mark stitch) and in each stitch around
Row 5: sc in the marked stitch and the next 2 sc (now mark the 3rd sc) *skip 2 sc, shell in the next stitch, skip 2 sc, sc in the next stitch* around, end with skip 2 sc and shell in the next stitch
Repeat rounds 2 - 5 until desire foot length, ending with row 4. About 6 inches.
Heel
Sc until you are lined up at the end of the sock and lined up with the last dc in a shell.
Ch 1, turn
Sc in the next 24 stitches, ch 1, turn---Note: The 24th stitch will end at the first (or last from the right direction) stitch of a shell, this shell will be part of the 4 other un-worked shells for the top of the foot.
sc along the 24 sc, ch 1, turn
Continue this row until 10 rows are completed
Heel turn
Sc in the next 12 sc, sc 2 tog, sc, ch1, turn
Sc in the next 2, sc 2 tog, sc, ch1, turn
Sc in the next 3, sc 2 tog next sc and sc on the row below, sc, ch1, turn
Sc in the next 4, sc 2 tog next sc and sc on the row below, sc, ch1, turn
Continue in this manner until all stitches are worked.
The last two rows are going to end with sc 2 tog next sc and sc on the row below, ch1, turn. There will be 12 sc total
Work 12 sc along side of heel flap, place marker in the 12th stitch.
continue established pattern on top of the foot.
Work 12 sc along side of heel flap, place marker in the 1st stitch.
*Sc until one stitch before marker, sc 2 tog, mark this stitch, continue pattern along top of foot, sc 2 tog the marked stitch and the next stitch, mark this stitch* repeat until the six rounds of decreases are done and you have 24 sc’s on the back of the foot. It is time to add the shell pattern back on these stitches and work the cuff
Sc until just before pattern starts on top of the foot, sc and mark this stitch, work one round of sc,
Cuff
Skip marked and next sc and worked the shell pattern starting with row 1.
Repeat the the 2-5 row shell pattern for the desired cuff length, en on a sc row, slip stitch in next stitch and finish off.
