Crochet Jacket with Big Squares
You’ll need:
5 (5) 6 (6) skeins of mélange blue yarn (70% acryl, 30% wool; 294m/100g);
5 (5) 5 (6) skeins of the same yarn, but in mélange red color;
Crochet hooks 3,5 and 5;
6 buttons 30 mm diameter.
Size: S (M) L (XL).
Stitches control: 25 sts x 12 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Instructions
Back and Front
Work as one-piece cloth. Make 1 st with crochet hook 3,5 with red color and make 300 (335) 370 (405) chain sts. Change to blue yarn, turn with the help of 3 chain sts increase (instead of the 1st double crochet) and work in reversed order due to the scheme, make 1 double crochet in every chain st. There are 43 (48) 53 (58) double crochets in every square = totally, 301 (336) 371 (406) double crochets and 7 squares. Continue work with double crochets, changing the yarn due to the scheme. Start every row with 3 chain sts increase and skip the 1st double crochet. Finish the row with 1 double crochet in the 3rd chain st increase. Each square is 18 cm height. When the length of the detail is 44 (45) 45 (46) cm, divide sts to back and front.
Back
Work on the central 129 (144) 159 (174) sts. Place mark in the middle of back and bind off 4, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 st (5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 st) 7, 4, 3, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 st (8, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 st) from both sides in the beginning of every row = 95 (104) 113 (122) sts. When the height of arm-hole from mark is 20 (21) 22 (23) cm, bind off sts for neck-hole. For this, leave the central 41 (42) 43 (44) sts open for neck-hole and finish both sides separately. Bind off 2 sts from inwards in the next row and finish with the next row = 25 (29) 33 (37) sts of shoulder.
Right Front
Work on the edging 86 (96) 106 (116) sts. Make arm-hole in the same way, as it’s written for back = there are 112 (124) 136 (148) sts. When there are 12 cm to shoulder chamfer, make round neck-hole. For this, bind off 37, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1 (38, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1) 39, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1 (40, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1) st from inwards. Finish at the height of back shoulder chamfer.
Left Front
Make in reflection to right front.
Sleeves
Make 1 st with crochet hook 3,5 and blue yarn and make 67 (71) 75 (79) chain sts, turn with the help of 3 chain sts and work with reversed order, make 1 double crochet in every chain st = 68 (72) 76 (80) double crochets. Work with pattern for squares until the length of sleeve is 8 (9) 9 (10) cm, then, increase 1 st from both sides. Repeat increases in every 2nd and 3rd rows until there are 96 (102) 108 (114) sts in work. When the length of sleeve is 43 (44) 44 (45) cm, finish square at the same height, as front and back and bind off sts for sleeve cap. For this, bind off 5, 4, 3, 2 sts from both sides until there are 42 (44) 46 (48) sts, after that, bind off 2, 3, 4 sts from both sides and finish your work.
Assembly
Make shoulder and side seams, sew up the sleeves.
