​Crochet Scarf with Hood

You’ll need:

2 balls (size L: 3 balls) of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick (Weight: 6/super bulky – 106 Yds, 6.0 oz) in Blossom color (#640-103);

2 balls (size L: 3 balls) of the same yarn, but in Eggplant color (#640-107); Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick &

1 ball of Lion Brand Go For Faux (Weight: 6/super bulky – 65 Yds, 3.5 oz) in Chinchilla color (#322-204);

Crochet hook 10 mm;

Yarn needle;

Stitch markers.

Size: XS (approx. age 1-2 y/o), S (3-5 y/o), M (6-8 y/o), L (9-12 y/o)

Stitches control: 9 sts x 10 rows = 6”.

Instructions

Hood

In this pattern the beginning ch1 or ch2 is not counted as a st, unless otherwise noted. Work pattern with a slightly loose stitch for a gracefully draping hood and scarf.

Ch 34, 38, 38, 42.

Row 1: Working in the bottom loop only, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch2, turn. (32, 36, 36, 40 sts)

Row 2: (RS) Hdc in first st, FPdc around next st. *Hdc, FPdc* repeat from * to * till end of row. Finish with hdc in ch2 space. Ch1, turn. (33, 37, 37, 41)

Row 3: Sc2, ps *sc3, ps* repeat * to * 6, 7, 7, 8 times. Sc2, ch1, turn. (33, 37, 37, 41)

Row 4: Sc, *hdc, sc* repeat * to * till end of row. Ch1, turn. (33, 37, 37, 41)

Row 5: Sc4, *ps, sc3* repeat * to * 6, 7, 7, 8 times. Sc, ch1, turn. (33, 37, 37, 41)

Row 6: Sc, *hdc, sc* repeat * to * till end of row. Ch1, turn. (33, 37, 37, 41)

Size XS – repeat Rows 3-6, 2 times.

Size S – repeat Rows 3-6, 2 times, plus work Row 3, 1 additional time.

Size M – repeat Rows 3-6, 2 times, plus work Rows 3 & 4, 1 additional time.

Size L – Repeat Rows 3-6, 3 times.

Seaming

Fold the hood in half, RS together. Align the bottom corners of the back of the hood. With a slightly loose st, working in the inside loops only (the loops that are closest together); sl st to the end creating the back seam of the hood. Break yarn.

Scarf

Ch 80, 96, 108, 120.

Rows 1-7, 7, 8, 8: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook, sc, *hdc, sc* repeat * to * till end of row. Ch1, turn. (78, 94, 106, 118)

Break yarn.

Hood Trim

With RS up, join faux fur yarn to the corner of the hood front.

*TIP: When working with faux fur yarn the sts can be cumbersome to find at times. Try to feel where the next st is and keep count of your sts to know you worked every st when you reach the end of the row.

Row 1: (RS) Working in the flo, hdc till end of row. Ch1, turn. (33, 37, 37, 41)

Rows 2-3, 5, 5, 5: hdc till end of row. Ch1, turn. (33, 37, 37, 41)

With the WS facing you, fold over the hood trim and sl st across the row using the flo on the edge of the hood front and the flo on the sts of the hood trim. Break yarn.

Pockets

With RS up, join faux fur yarn to the bottom corner of one end of the scarf. Ch1, hdc across the end of the scarf, ch1, turn, hdc across. Break yarn. Repeat for other end of scarf.

To create pockets, count up the side 8 to 12 sts (adjusting for desired pocket depth and/or for the recipient arm length) and pin both pockets to ensure the pockets are the same size.

Join yarn and sl st up each side of both pockets including the sides of the faux fur yarn rows at the top of the pocket. Break yarn.

Assembly

Fold the scarf in half (WS together) and lay it inside the hood (RS together). Align the outside edge of the scarf with the bottom edge of the hood. Pin the pieces together to keep the hood and scarf aligned. Join yarn and sl st around to seam the hood and scarf together. When finished, turn the hood RS out. Break yarn and weave in all ends.
