You’ll need:

Yellow and orange (or brown) DK yarn;

Crochet hook 4 mm;

6mm safety eyes;

Stitch marker;

Stuffing;

Tapestry needle.

Instructions

Giraffe Head

Round 1: In yellow, ch 6, 1 sc in second stitch from hook, 3 sc, 3 sc in last stitch from starting chain, working along in the opposite side, 3 sc, 2 sc in next st, using the stitch marker to mark the first stitch of the next round --- 12 sts

Round 2: 2 sc in next st, 3 sc, *2 sc in next st* 3 times, 3 sc, *2 sc in next st* 2 times --- 18 sts

Round 3: 1 sc, 2 sc in next st, 4 sc, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc* 3 times, 3 sc, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc* 2 times --- 24 sts

Round 4: 1 sc, 2 sc in next, 5 sc, *2 sc in next st, 2 sc* 3 times, 3 sc, *2 sc in next st, 2 sc* 2 times --- 30 sts

Round 5: *4 sc, 2 sc in next* 6 times --- 36 sts

Rnds 6-8: Sc around --- 36 sts

Round 9: *2sctog, 14 sc, 2sctog* 2 times --- 32 sts

Round 10: *2sctog, 14 sc* 2 times --- 30 sts

Round 11: *3 sc, 2sctog* 6 times --- 24 sts

Rnds 12-15: Sc around --- 24 sts

Round 16: *2 sc, 2sctog* 6 times --- 18 sts

Rnds 17-18: Sc around --- 18 sts Stuff the head.

Round 19: *1 sc, 2sctog* 6 times --- 12 sts

Round 20: *2sctog* 6 times --- 6 sts

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. Close the hole and weave in the remaining yarn. Place the eyes on round 11. In brown embroider the mouth on round 1

Giraffe Legs

Using the same size hook as you did for the head, in orange (or brown), 6 sc in magic circle (6)

SC all around (6)

SC all around (6)

Change to yellow, SC all around (6)

SC all around, keep going until the leg is as long as you want

Blanket

Use a 4.0mm hook, colour A is the yellow DK yarn and colour B is the orange (or brown) DK yarn.

Make the starting chain 47 sts long, which is one more repeat section than in the original pattern. If you want a bigger square, add an extra sts in multiples of 12 to the starting chain.

Row 1 (place stitch marker on right side): Work 1 sc into 2nd chain from hk, 1 sc into each ch to end, turn. (34 sc) Should measure 10”.

Row 2: Ch 1, work 1 sc into each sc to end, turn. Attach Color B in last st. Do not finish off Color A – carry up side of square. (34 sc)

Row 3: Using color B, ch 3 (count as 1 dc), skip 1st sc, 1 dc into next sc, 1 hdc into next sc, 1 sc into next sc, *ch 2, skip 2 sc, 1 sc into next sc, 1 hdc into next sc, 1 dc into each of next 2 sc, 1 E into each of next 2 sc, 1 dc into each of next 2 sc, 1 hdc into next sc, 1 sc into next sc; rep from * to last 6 sc, ch 2, skip 2 sc, 1 sc into next sc, 1 hdc into next sc, 1 dc into each of next 2 sc, turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, skip 1st dc, work 1 dc into next dc, 1 hdc into next hdc, 1 sc into next sc, *ch 2, 1 sc into next sc, 1 hdc into next hdc, 1 dc into each of next 2 dc, 1 E into each of next 2 E, 1 dc into each of next 2 dc, 1 hdc into next hdc, 1 sc into next sc; rep from * to last 6 sts, ch 2, 1 sc into next sc, 1 hdc into next hdc, 1 dc into next dc, 1 dc into 3rd of ch 3 at beg of prev row, turn. Attach Color A in last st,finish off Color B.

Row 5: Using color A, ch 1, work 1 sc into each of first 4 sts, [inserting hk from front of work, work 1 LSC into each of the 2 free sc in A 3 rows below], *1 sc into each of the next 10 sts on prev row, work 2 LSC 3 row below as before; rep from * to last 4 sts, 1 sc into each of next 3 sts, 1 sc into 3rd of ch 3 at beg of prev row, turn. (34 sc)

Row 6: using color A, ch 1, work 1 sc into each of sc to end, turn. Do not finish off Color A – carry up side of square, attach Color B in last st. (34 sc)

Row 7: using color B, ch 1, * work 1 sc into first sc, 1 hdc into next sc, 1 dc into each of next 2 sc, 1 E into each of next 2 sc, 1 dc into each of next 2 sc, 1 hdc into next sc, 1 sc into next sc, ch 2, skip 2 sc; rep from * to end omitting ch 2 at end of last rep, turn.

Row 8: Ch 1, * work 1 sc into next sc, 1 hdc into next hdc, 1 dc into each of next 2 dc, 1 E into each of next 2 E, 1 dc into each of next 2 dc, 1 hdc into next hdc, 1 sc into next sc, ch 2; rep from * to end omitting ch 2 at end of last rep, turn.

Finish off Color B, attach Color A to last st.

Row 9: Using color A, ch 1, * 1 sc into each of next 10 sts, inserting hk from front of work, work 1 LSC into each of 2 free sc in A 3 rows below; rep from * omitting 2 LSC at end of last rep, turn.

Repeat Row 2 – 9 twice more. Repeat Rows 2 – 6 once more. Do not attach Color B in Rnd. 6.

Pattern Note: The remaining section of the pattern is worked in rounds.

Rnd 1: Place stitch marker in live st to secure, and weave in all ends. Remove stitch marker, place hk in live st, work 2 sc in same st (3 sc are now in same st – corner made) turn work 90 degrees clockwise so that the left side is at the top, work sc evenly spaced along side of square, working 3 sc in corner, turn square 90 degrees clockwise so that the bottom is at the top, work 1 sc in each foundation ch to end of row, work 3 sc in corner, turn square 90 degrees clockwise so that the other side is at the top, work sc evenly spaced along side of square, work 3 sc in corner, turn square 90 degrees clockwise so that the top is now righted, work 1 sc in each sc across row, join with sl st to beg sc.

Rnd. 2: Ch 3 (count as dc), in next st work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) corner made, work 1 dc in each st to next middle corner st, work corner, rep pat around square, join with sl st to beg ch-3.

Rnd. 3: Ch 2, *hdc in each st to corner, in corner work (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc), rep from * around square, join with sl st to beg ch-2. Finish off, weave in ends, block.

Follow the pattern until you have a square. SC around the outside of the square, then work crab stitch around as a border.

Sew the head onto the blanket.
