Crochet Christmas Garland

You’ll need:

Grey yarn for garland chain and light socket, worsted weight Colored yarn for light bulb, brights are best, worsted weight;

Crochet hooks G and H;

Stitch markers;

Fiberfill;

Tapestry needle.

Note

Light sockets and bulbs are worked in continuous rounds.

Instructions

Light Socket

Using G hook and grey yarn

Magic circle (Leave a long tail for garland.)

R1: 6 sc in magic circle (6 sts) (If making stand alone ornament: Ch 20, sl st to last st from R1 before continuing onto R2. )

R2: 2 sc in each st (12 sts)

R3: Sc in each st back loops only (12 sts)

R4: Sc in each st (12 sts)

Fasten off, weave in tail.

If making a garland, the beginning tail from the magic circle will be used to attach the socket to the garland. Make sure it is on the outside of the socket before you pull the ring closed.

Light Bulb

Using G hook, switch to colored yarn

R1: Join yarn. Sc in each sc front loops only of light socket (12 sts)

R2: *1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st* repeat from * 6 times (18 sts)

R3-6: Sc in each st (18 sts) R7: *1 sc in next st, sc2tog* repeat from * 6 times (12 sts)

R8-9: Sc in each st (12 sts)

R10: *1 sc in next st, sc2tog* repeat from * 4 times (8 sts) Stuff light bulb with fiberfill.

R11: *sc2tog* repeat from * 4 times (4 sts)

Fasten off leaving a long tail. Use the sewing needle to bring the yarn through the front loops of the 4 remaining stitches. Pull tight to close and weave in the ends.

Garland

Using H hook and grey yarn.

Create a chain the length you would like your garland. (Mine was over 12 feet long to accommodate 36 bulbs.)

Once desired length has been reached fasten off chain.

Begin attaching light sockets at desired interval: I attached my sockets every 18 stitches, or approximately every 4 inches. Use the beginning tail of the light socket to fasten socket onto the chain. Weave tail into the inside of the socket. I found it easier to attach the sockets to the chain for the garland before adding on the bulbs
