Helping our users. ​Two-Needle Mittens with Suede.

You’ll need:

#4 medium weight yarn: Approximately 4 oz (114 g) / 250 yds (228 m)

Knitting needles 3.75 mm and 4.5 mm;

Suede palm and thumb set;

Stitch Markers;

Stitch Holders;

Yarn Needle.

Stitches control: 20 sts = 10 cm in stockinette stitch using larger needles. T

Notes

Instructions are given for solid color mittens. To make striped mittens as shown, change colors every four rows.

Mittens for both hands are knit the same.

Three basic sizes are given to fit children, women and men. To adjust for intermediate sizes, change length as desired or use a larger or smaller needle size to change gauge. A slightly larger mitten will be more comfortable, but takes more body heat to keep warm.

Instructions

Cuff

With smaller needles, cast on 28 (34, 40) sts loosely.

Row 1: *K1, P1, rep from * to end.

Repeat Row 1 until piece measures approximately 6.3 cm (7.6 cm, 8.8 cm).

Body

Change to larger needles.

Row 1: K 3 (2, 2), *Kfb, K 6 (5, 4) rep from *2 (4, 6) times, kfb, K3 (1,2)—32 (40, 48) sts.

Row 2: Purl.

Row 3: K 15 (19, 23), pm, Kfb in next two sts, pm, K to end—34 (42, 50) sts.

Row 4: Purl.

Row 5: K to first marker, slip first marker to right ndl, Kfb in next st, K to one st before second marker, Kfb, slip second marker, K to end of row—36 (44, 52) sts.
Row 6: Purl.Rep last two rows 3 (4, 5) more times—12 (14, 16) sts between markers; 42 (52, 62) sts total.

Thumb

Next row: K to first marker, remove marker and place 15 (19, 23) sts just knitted on holder, kfb in next st, K to one st before second marker, kfb, remove marker and place last 15 (19, 23) sts on holder—14 (16, 18) sts remain on needle. Work even on thumb sts in St st until piece measures 4.4 cm (5.7 cm, 6.9 cm), ending after working a WS row.

Next row: K2tog across row—7 (8, 9) sts. Cut yarn leaving 30 cm tail. Thread tail on needle and draw through remaining sts, gather and secure. Turn thumb inside out and stitch seam. Fasten off.


Upper Hand

With right side facing, knit 15 (19, 23) sts from st holder, pick up and knit two sts at base of thumb, knit remaining sts from other st holder—32 (40, 48) sts.

Work even in St st until piece measures approximately 19 cm (21 cm, 24 cm) ending with purl row. Place marker in center of row.

Tip Shaping

Next row: K2, slip 1, K1, psso, K to 3 sts before marker, K2tog, K1, slip marker, K1, slip 1, K1, psso, K to last 4 sts, K2tog, K2—28 (36, 44) sts.

Next row: Purl.

Rep last two rows 2 (3, 4) more times—20 (24, 28) sts.

Next row: K2tog across row—10 (12, 14) sts.

Cut yarn leaving long tail. Thread tail on needle and draw through remaining sts; turn mitten inside out, gather snugly and secure. Stitch side seam. Fasten off.

Finishing

Center suede palm over upper part of mitten (thumbs should be to right and left sides). Stitch around using matching yarn. Fasten off. Place suede thumb on inner portion of thumb. Stitch around as for palm. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
