Multifunctional Knit Scarf
You’ll need:
8 skeins of yarn (50% angora, 50% wool; 112m/50g);
Knitting needles 4 and 5,5;
Markers;
Crochet hook 5;
Tapestry needle;
12 buttons with diameter 1,3 cm.
Size: 40,5 cmx137 cm.
Stitches control: on the central part of cables on 38 sts = 13 cm: 19 sts x 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Abbreviations
2/2RC (2 up, transfer 2 sts to right): transfer 2 sts to the auxiliary needle behind work, 2 knit sts, 2 knit sts from the auxiliary needle;
4/4LC (4 up, transfer 4 sts to left): transfer 4 sts to the auxiliary needle in front of work, 4 knit sts, 4 knit sts from the auxiliary needle;
4/4RC (4 up, transfer 4 sts to right): transfer 4 sts to the auxiliary needle behind work, 4 knit sts, 4 knit sts from the auxiliary needle;
M1LP (add 1 st from left side as purl): lift the broaching on the left-hand needle between the last st and 1st st on the left-hand needle from front to back, make it as purl to back – 1 st add.
M1RP (add 1 st from right side as purl): lift the broaching on the left-hand needle between the last st and 1st st on the left-hand needle from back to front, make it as purl to front – 1 st add.
M2P (add 2 purls): lift the broaching on the left-hand needle between the last st and 1st st on the left-hand needle from front to back, knit this st from back to front –2 sts add.
Instructions
Cast on 86 sts.
1st row (RS): make the right half of the scarf on the first 24 sts due to the scheme 1, place marker, make the central part of cables due to the scheme 2 on the next 38 sts, place marker, work with the rest 24 sts due to the scheme 1 (left half).
Continue work due to the scheme to 137 cm long, finish work after the 43rd row of the scheme 2 of the central part of cables and bind off the sts.
Wet the scarf and let it dry, then, fasten it with single crochets in every st, 2 chain sts in the corners, finish the row with slip st in the 1st st along the right-side.
Define the places for 4 buttons along the width of work with 7,5 cm distance, make the same actions for the 4 buttons along the left lower edge of the long part and in the upper right edge (stated on the scheme).
By means of crochet hook: 1 chain st, turn, single crochet in every single crochet of the previous row, 3 single crochets under every arch of 2 chain sts in the corners.
Make button-holes on the opposite sides from buttons: 1 single crochet, 5 chain sts, 1 single crochet, finish the row with slip st in the 1st single crochet.
Last row: 1 chain st, turn, single crochet in every single crochet of the previous row, 5 single crochet in every chain st of the button-hole, slip st in the 1st single crochet, fasten the yarn and sew the buttons.
