You’ll need:

About 550 yards Worsted weight (size 4/Aran) yarn;

Crochet hook 6 mm;

Elbow patches (optional).

Stitches control: 11 hdc and 10 rows in 4” square

Measurements

Armhole to armhole (across back) = 10.5″

Neck to hem = 14.5″

Upper arm = 10″ circumference

Cuff = 8″ circumference

Sleeve length = 12″

Body circumference = 23″

Instructions

Row 1: Fhdc-46 (or Ch-47, hdc in 2nd ch from hk and each to end) (46)

Row 2: Ch-1, hdc in each st to end. (46)

Rows 3 – 28: Ch-1, hdc in each st to end. (46)

Row 29: Ch-1, hdc in 31 sts, ch-16. (47)

Row 30: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. (46)

Rows 31 – 41: Ch-1, hdc in each st to end. (46)

Fasten off.

Other side (with top of cardigan to your right)

Row 1: Ch-15, hdc in 16th st and in each st to end. (46)

Rows 2 – 13: Ch-1, hdc in each st to end. (46)

Fold sides in and sew shoulders together using the mattress stitch.

Edging

Attach yarn at bottom right.

Row 1: Ch-1, hdc in 42 sts, 2hdc in next, hdc in next, 2hdc in next, hdc in next, hdc2tog in same and next st (the shoulder seam sts), hdc in same. 2hdc in next 3 sts, hdc in next, hdc2tog in same and next st (the shoulder seam sts), hdc in same. 2hdc in next, hdc in next, 2hdc in next, hdc in 42 sts. Row 2: Hdc in 41 sts, 2hdc in next, hdc in 2 sts, 2hdc in next, hdc in 16 sts, 2hdc in next, hdc in 2 sts, 2hdc in next, hdc in 41 sts. Ch-1, turn. (110)

Rows 3 – 5: Hdc in first, * fphdc around next st, bphdc around next * repeat between * * 12 times (27 sts so far), * fpdc around next st, bpdc around next * repeat between * * 27 times. * fphdc around next st, bphdc around next * repeat between * * 12 times , hdc in last. (110)

Sleeves

Attach yarn at bottom of armhole with sl st.

Row 1: Ch-1, Hdc in each st around. (30)

Do not join, work in spiral instead using stitch markers to note first st of each round.

Rows 2 – 3: Hdc in each st around (30)

Row 4: Hdc in each st around, hdc2tog in last 2 sts (29)

Row 5: Hdc in each st around (29)

Rows 6 & 7: repeat rows 4 & 5 (28)

Rows 8 – 15: Hdc in each around (28)

Row 16: Hdc in each st around, hdc2tog in last 2 sts. (27)

Row 17: hdc in each st around (27)

Repeat rows 16 & 17 three times (ending with 24 sts)

Rows 24 – 27: Hdc in each st around (24)

Rows 28: * fphdc in first, bphdc in next * repeat between * * around. Slip st to top of next st. Invisible join and weave in ends.

Bottom (optional)

Sc in each row end around bottom of cardigan. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Adding Elbow Patches

Using a sharp darning needle, whip stitch the elbow patches into place.
