Helping our users. Knitting Ice Cream.

You'll need:

About 30m of 8 ply or DK yarn for ice cream scoop (Cleckheaton Superfine Merino Colours; Ice Green, Blush & We Love Knitting 8 ply Colour Confetti);

About 17m of 8 ply or DK yarn for cone (Cleckheaton Superfine Merino Colour Dune);

Double pointed knitting needles 3,25 mm;

Stuffing;

Wool needle;

Markers.

Tension gauge: This toy has been designed at a tension of 6.5 sts to 2.5 cm.

Stuffed toys are generally knitted with needles smaller than the recommended needle size for your yarn, for a tighter knit, to prevent seeing any filling through the toy.

Instructions

Using 3.25 mm dpns & yarn for ice cream scoop, cast on 32 sts, leaving a 40cm / 15.74 inch tail end. Divide sts roughly equally over 3 dpns. Join in the rnd and knit as follows:

Rounds 1 – 5: Knit 5 rnds.

Round 6: (K2tog, yo) to end (32 sts).

Rounds 7 – 13: Knit 7 rnds.

Pm on the ws of work, before beginning next rnd.

Round 14: Knit.

Round 15: (K4, m1) to end (40 sts).

Round 16: Knit.

Round 17: (K5, m1) to end (48 sts).

Rounds 18 – 30: Knit 13 rnds.

Round 31: (K4, k2tog) to end (40).

Round 32: Knit (and every foll alt row until 16 sts rem).

Round 33: (K3, k2tog) to end (32 sts).

Round 35: (K2, k2tog) to end (24 sts).

Round 37: (K1, k2tog) to end (16 sts).

Round 38: (K2tog) to end (8 sts).

Cut yarn and thread tail through rem 8 sts. Pull tail firmly to close the loop.

Ice Cream Cone

Using the coloured yarn for the cone, pick up 30 sts equally over 3 dpn’s, along the cast on edge of the ice cream scoop. Join in the rnd and knit as follows:

Rounds 1 & 2: Purl.

Rounds 3 & 4: (K1, p1) to end.

Round 5 & 6: Purl.

Rounds 7 & 8: (K1, p1) to end.

Round 9: (P3, p2tog) to end (24 sts).

Round 10: Purl.

Rounds 11 & 12: (K1, p1) to end.

Rounds 13 & 14: Purl.

Rounds 15 & 16: (K1, p1) to end.

At this point, you will need to fold the picot edge under, to make the bottom of the ice cream scoop. Leaving the needles on, turn the work inside out, and line the scoop cast on edge with the marker. Using the cast on tail, sew the ice cream scoop edge in position, by catching the back of the stitch marked. Keeping inline with each round, continue to sew along the scoop, catching the back of each stitch. Weave in all ends, then turn the ice cream cone right side out and begin to stuff. Place the rattle insert, inside the middle of the scoop and surround with stuffing. You will need to stuff the ice cream cone firmly to give it the correct shape. Continue to stuff and shape the ice cream cone as you knit.

Round 17: (P2, p2tog) to end (18 sts).

Round 18: Purl.

Rounds 19 & 20: (K1, p1) to end.

Rounds 21 & 22: Purl.

Rounds 23 & 24: (K1, p1) to end.

Round 25: (P1, p2tog) to end (12 sts).

Round 26: Purl.

Rounds 27 & 28: (K1, p1) to end.

Rounds 29 & 30: Purl.

Rounds 31 & 32: (K1, p1) to end.

Round 33: (P2tog) to end (6 sts).

Cut yarn and thread tail through rem 6 sts. Pull tail firmly to close the loop.

Finishing

Fasten, then bury ends into the ice cream cone. Using a needle and black thread, stitch a kawaii face as pictured. Make sure both ends are tied together securely and then buried inside the ice cream scoop.
