How to Choose Crochet Hook For Certain Yarn
There are 2 ways:
1. Due to the yarn length on 100 g
Hook diameter Yarn length on 100 m
0,5-1 mm 1600-2000 m
1-1,5 mm 600-1500 m
2-2,5 mm 300-500 m
3-3,5 mm 250-350 m
3-4 mm 200 m
5-6 mm 100 m or less
Crochet hooks with bigger diameter are used for very loose crochetting from woolen and half-woolen yarn.
2. Hand method.
If there is no information about yarn of the skein, so you can choose a crochet hook on yarn width.
Put the yarn into the hook extraction and pull a little bit. If the yarn fully cover the hook, so this hook is too thin. Working yarn will flake while crochetting and your work will be too densed.
If the yarn covers the extraction and there is some blank space, so this hook is too big. Your work will be too loose.
When the hook is chosen correctly, the yarn fully covers the extraction. And your work will be stitch to stitch, while crochetting.
