Gauge
Measurements
- Child: 9″ long by 3″ tall
- Adult Small/Medium: 11″ long by 4” tall
- Adult Large/X-Large: 12″ long by 4″ tall
Additional Notes
- -Ch 1 at beginning of row does not count as a stitch.
- -Use relaxed tension especially when working the spike stitches or your piece will start to roll in on itself. A little “rolling” is expected but it should easily flatten out by the time you add the scalloped trim.
- -I have included “right side” and “wrong side” references to help you keep things straight when cutting and reattaching your yarn (after row 8 for adult sizes, and after row 6 for child size). This step of cutting and reattaching the yarn is purely cosmetic. I like the “right side” of my work facing as often as possible because it looks more professional in my opinion.
- -This pattern can be increased or decreased by starting chain numbers divisible by 4, i.e., 56, 64, 68, 88.

Assembling Your X-Twist Headband
I have a picture tutorial illustrating these assembly steps over in this post.
- Lay your headband flat, right side (with the texture) facing up, so it is a tall, skinny “I”-shaped rectangle.
Step 1: Lay your headband flat, right side (with the texture) facing up, so it is a tall, skinny “I”-shaped rectangle.
Step 3: Fold the end of the band in half sideways creating a U wrapping around the right side of the rectangle.
Step 2: Fold the “I” in half, bringing the bottom up to the top, so your top and bottom ends line up. You will be looking at the “wrong side” of the headband.
3. Fold the end of the band that you brought up to the top in half sideways creating a U. The sideways U should wrap around the right side of the rectangle.
Holding the pieces together, flip your headband over.
- Next, fold the top part of the piece in half again. You will now have 2 interlocking sideways U shapes.
- Use the 15″ tail to sew the ends together securely, then weave in the remaining tail.
- Flip your headband right-side out so the pretty texture shows.
