Crochet Summer Solstice Granny Square Tutorial

Materials Needed
5mm crochet hook
Aran weight cotton yarn – I recommend Yarn and Colours Epic from Lovecrafts
Darning needle
Scissors
Abbreviations (US terms)
Ch = chain
Sl st = slip stitch
Dc = double crochet
Tr = treble crochet
Instructions
Round 1 – make a magic circle (step by step guide on my blog). Ch2, make 11 dc into the circle. Join to the top of the ch2 with a sl st and pull the tail tight to close the circle. Fasten off.
Round 2 – working in between the dc stitches from the previous round, ch3 (counts as dc), *in the next space between the dc stitches make (dc, ch1, dc)*. Repeat from * to * until you reach the first dc, in the same space, make dc, ch1 and join to the top of the ch3 with a sl st. Fasten off.
Round 3 – working into the ch1 space from the previous round, ch3 (counts as dc), make another dc in the same space, *in the next ch1 space make (2dc, ch1, 2dc)*. Repeat from * to * until you reach the first 2dc. Make 2dc in the same space, ch1, join to the top of the first ch3 with a sl st. Fasten off.
Round 4 – working into the ch1 space from the previous round, ch4 (counts as tr), make another tr in the same space (this counts as the first half of your first corner). You will now make a long treble in between the (dc, ch1, dc) clusters from round 2 (see photo below).
*Make 3dc in the next ch1 space, make a long tr in between the (dc, ch1, dc) clusters from round 2, make 3dc in the next ch1 space, make a long tr in the between the (dc. ch1, dc) cluster from round 2, in the next ch1 space make (2tr, ch2, 2tr), make a long tr in the between the (dc, ch1, dc) clusters from round 2*. Repeat from * to * until you have one half corner and 3 full corners. Make 3dc in the next ch1 space, make a long tr in the between the (dc. ch1, dc) cluster from round 2, make 3dc in the next ch1 space, make a long tr in the between the (dc. ch1, dc) cluster from round 2. Finish the second half of your first corner by making tr, ch2 into the same space as your first 2tr. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch4. Fasten off.
Round 5 – Join your yarn to the ch2 corner space, ch3 (counts as first dc), dc in the same space (makes the first half of your first corner). *Dc in each stitch around until you reach the ch2 corner space. Make (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in the corner space*. Repeat from * to * until you’ve made your final corner. Dc in each stitch until you reach the first half corner. To finish the corner, make 2dc, ch1 into the same space as your first 2dc. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch4. Fasten off.
