Fishy Phone Case

Materials List:
Red Heart "Gumdrop" – Smoothie (A, 1 skein)
Lily "Sugar 'n Cream" -- Robin's Egg (B, 1 skein)
Crochet Hook, Sizes 4.5mm (US G/6)
Tapestry needle
Embroidery Needle
Black felt
Black embroidery floss
Small Silver Swivel Lobster Clasp

Notes:
The fish's head is crocheted in the round in unjoined spirals. Use a locking stitch marker if necessary to mark the beginning of each round. When you complete a round, move the marker to the loop on your hook and continue crocheting.
The pattern is written to fit an iPhone or iPod. Make adjustments in the width of the body by starting with a longer or shorter beginning chain.

Body
Leaving a long beginning tail, with yarn A and a G hook, ch 14.
Rnd 1: Hdc into 3rd ch from the hook and next 11 sts (12 sts)
Rnds 2-32: Ch 2, turn, hdc into each st across (12 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long strand of yarn for sewing. Rectangle should measure 3in/7.6cm wide and 10in/25.4cm long. Rectangle should fit around phone when folded in half. If case is too small, continue crocheting more rows. Fold Body in half and stitch edges closed with tail.

Head
Starting at the top of the Head, with yarn B and a G hook, make an adjustable ring, ch 1, sc 6 into ring. Pull tail gently to close ring.
Rnd 1: Work 2 sc into each st (12 sts)
Rnd 2: *(2 Sc into next st, sc into next 3 sts), rep from * to end of rnd (15 sts)
Rnd 3: *(2 Sc into next st, sc into next 4 sts), rep from * to end of rnd (18 sts)
Rnd 4: *(2 Sc into next st, sc into next 5 sts), rep from * to end of rnd (21 sts)
Rnd 5: *(2 Sc into next st, sc into next 6 sts), rep from * to end of rnd (24 sts)
Rnds 6-8: Sc into each st.
Rnds 9-10: Hdc into each st.
Rnd 11: *(3 hdc into next st, sl st into next st), rep around.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Flatten Head. Insert Body, lining up Rnd 10 to top of Body. Stitch to top of Body piece, from one side of the front, around the back, to the other side of the front.

Tail Fin (Make 1)
With yarn B and G hook, ch 5.
Row 1: Sc into 2nd ch from hook and next 3 sts (4 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc into next st, sc into next 2 sts, 2 sc into next st (6 sts)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc into each st.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc into next st, sc into next 4 sts, 2 sc into next st (8 sts)
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc into each st.
Row 6: Ch 2, turn, hdc into next st, dc into next st, hdc into next st, sc into next 2 sts, hdc into next st, dc into next st, hdc into last st.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Weave tail through to Row 1 and sew Tail Fin to bottom edge of Body. Weave in ends.

Pectoral Fins (Make 2)
With yarn B and G hook, ch 7.
Row 1: Sc into 2nd ch from hook and next 5 chs (6 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, turn, working into back loops only (BLO) of each st, sc into next 2 sts, hdc into next 2 sts, dc into next 2 sts (6 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 3, turn, working into front loops only (FLO), dc into next 2 sts, hdc into next 2 sts, sc into next 2 sts.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, turn, working into BLO, sc into next 2 sts, hdc into next 2 sts, dc into next 2 sts.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Weave yarn tail to short edge of fin. Sew to front and back of Body as shown.

Dorsal/Pelvic Fins (Make 2):
With yarn B and G hook, ch 8.
Row 1: Sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 chs, dc in next 2 chs, trc in last ch.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Weave tail through to beginning ch and sew fins to side seams of case as shown. Weave in ends.

Finishing
Cut two small circles from black felt and two slightly larger circles from white felt for the eyes. With straight stitches and black embroidery floss and embroidery needle, stitch the eyes down to either side of Head. With black embroidery floss, stitch a smile from one side to the other with straight stitches.

Thread yarn needle with a length of yarn B, knotted at one end. Weave yarn up through tip of Head. Thread yarn through the loop of a clasp and back down into Head. Knot securely and weave in ends.

Techniques
Adjustable ring: Make a ring with yarn. Insert hook into ring, yarn over and draw up a loop. Ch 1, as directed in pattern. Work the stitches required in pattern into the ring. When complete gently, but firmly, pull tail to close up the ring.
