Each stocking ornament measures about 2.5” by 9”
You can substitute with thicker yarn and a corresponding hook to adjust the size or use thinner yarn and a matching hook.
How to crochet stocking ornaments
Round 1: In a magic ring, ch 6 (counts as dc + ch 3), 3 dc, *ch 3, 3 dc, rep from * 1 more time, ch 3, 2 dc, join with a sl st to the 3rd ch from the beginning ch 6. 12 dc, 4 ch sps
Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), *(2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in ch 3 sp, dc in next 3 sts, rep from * 2 more times, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in ch 3 sp, dc in last 2 sts, join with a sl st to the 3rd ch from the beginning ch 6. 28 dc, 4 ch sps
Fasten off
- Join yarn with a sl st to any of the ch 3 sps
- With the right side facing you.
- Crocheting in rows.
Row 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a st, here and throughout), 2 hdc ch 3 sp, hdc in next 7 sts, 2 hdc in next ch 3 sp, turn. 11 hdc
Leave the remaining sts unworked.
Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as first dc + ch 1 sp, here and throughout), skip next st, *dc in next st, skip next st, ch 1, rep from until the last st, dc in last st. 6 dc/5 ch sps
Row 3: Ch 1, hdc in each st/ch across, turn. 11 hdc
Rows 4 – 9: Rep Rows 2 – 3
Section 2: Heel
Row 10: Ch 4, skip next st, dc in next st, ch 2, (dc, ch 1) into the dc just made, rep () 4 more times, skip next 2 sts on the body of the stocking, sl st into each of the remaining sts on the stocking. Turn
Row 11: Ch 2, skip the sl sts, tr into first ch 1 sp from row 10, *skip next st, ch 2, tr in next ch sp, rep from * 3 more times.
Do not turn.
Section 3: Foot
Crocheting across the sides of the sts from Rows 11, 10, and Row 9 (the sts on the inner edges of the heel)
Row 12: Ch 1, sc evenly in the edges of the sts from the heel, and row 9, turn. 9 sc
Leave the remaining sts on the sides of the leg unworked.
Row 13: Ch 4, skip next st, *dc in next st, skip next st, ch 1, rep from until the last st, dc in last st. 5 dc/4 ch sps.
Row 14: Ch 1, hdc in each st/ch across, turn. 9 hdc
Rows 15: Rep Row 13
Row 16: Ch 3, skip next 2 ch sps, (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in next st, skip next 2 ch sps, ch 3, sc in last st (3rd ch from the beginning ch 4).
Edging
Crocheting around the whole ornament
Round 1: Ch 1, sc evenly across (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) at each corner, join with a sl st to the beginning ch.
Optional
Joining for a garland.
Chain 30, *pick up the first stocking, crocheting across the stitches on the last row, sc in each st, chain 15, rep from * picking the next stocking until you have completely joined all, chain 15 and fasten off.
Make sure to have the right side facing for all the stockings.
Sew a bow on the stockings.
