Rnd 1: With yellow ch 7, join with sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 3, 2 dc in ring, (ch 7, 3 dc in ring) 4 times, ch 7, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3. At this point you can fasten off if you are making the petals a contrasting color. If using same color, sl st in next dc, ch 1, sc in same st, and skip the first sc in rnd 2.

Rnd 2: With purple, join with sc to center dc of any 3-dc group, (16 dc in next ch-7 loop, sc in center dc of next 3-dc group) 3 times, ch 4, (dtr, ch 1) 12 times in next ch-7 lp, (tr, ch 1) twice in same lp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in same lp, sc in center dc of next 3-dc group, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-7 lp, (Ch 1, tr) twice in same lp, (ch 1, dtr) 12 times in same lp, ch 4, join with sl st to first sc, fasten off.

JOINING PANSIES TO DOILY:
**(See note below)
Rnd 1: With green, join with sl st in ch-2 sp between solid sections, ch 3, keeping last lp of each dc on hook 2 dc in same sp, thread over and through all 3 lps on hook (cluster), * ch 3, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc "shell") in next ch-3 lp, ch 4, 3-dc cluster in next ch-2 lp, ch 4, shell in next ch-3 lp, ch 3, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 3, 3-dc cluster in next ch-2 sp, rep from * around, end last rep with ch 3, join with sl st in top of first dc-cl. (16 shells, 16 clusters).

Rnd 2: *Ch 4, sc in same dc-cluster (picot), ch 3, sl st in 13th dc of first small petal of yellow pansy, ch 4, sc in center of next shell of doily center, sl st in center of next small petal of same pansy, sc in center of same shell on doily center, ch 4, sl st in 4th dc of next small petal of same pansy, ch 3, sc in top of next dc-cluster on doily center, rep from * around until all pansies are joined to doily center, end last rep with ch 3, join with sl st in dc-cl, fasten off.

**NOTE: When joining the pansies, it will make a neater "line" on the petal edges if you sl st into the BACK of the stitch in the pansy rather than the entire stitch, which tends to break up the line of the petal edge. If you look at the dc on the petal from the back, you will notice that you see the loop at the top of the stitch and a loop right beneath the top stitch. Try slip stitching into those two loops rather the two top loops. You will be looking at the petal from the front, so you will have to put your hook through what is the back loop of the stitch and then down through the bar right behind (or below) that loop.

EDGING
Attach white in ch-4 lp of first large petal of any pansy, sc in same lp, *(ch 3, sc in next ch 1 sp) 15 times, sc in next sc between petals, sc in next ch-1 sp of next large petal of same pansy, (ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp) 14 times, ch 3, sc in next ch-4 lp of same large petal, sc in first ch-4 lp of next pansy, rep from *across 2 large petals of all pansies, join with sl st in first sc, fasten off.

FINISHING:
Weave in all ends carefully. Spray lightly with starch if desired and pin to shape. Let dry. I lightly steam press the large petals of each pansy first to shape them nicely, since they overlap and are hard to pin to shape.
