GAUGE

2 pattern repeats & 12 rows = 5 1/2" (13.9 cm)

INSTRUCTIONS

Ch 182 loosely.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, *ch 3, skip next 3 ch, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch, ch 3, skip next 3 ch ** sc in each of next 3 ch; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, sc in each od last 2 ch; turn—18 ch-2 spaces.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 4, skip next ch-3 space, 5 dc in ch-2 space, ch 4, skip next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * across; turn— 18 5-dc shells.

Row 3: Ch 7 (counts as tr, ch 3), skip next ch-4 space, *sc in each of next 5 dc**, ch 7, skip next 2 ch-4 spaces; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, ch 4, 1 tr in last sc; turn—17 ch-7 spaces.

Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in first tr, *ch 3, skip next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, ch 3**, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-7 space; repeat from* across, ending last repeat at **, 2 dc in 4th ch of beginning ch-7; turn—17 ch-2 spaces.

Row 5: Ch 3,2 dc in first dc, *ch 4, skip next sc, sc in next sc, ch 4, skip next ch-3 space**, 5 dc in next ch-2 space; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, 3 dc in top of beginning ch-3; turn—17 5-dc shells.

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, *ch 7, skip next 2 ch- 4 spaces**, sc in each of next 5 dc; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, sc in each of last 3 sts;turn—18 ch-7 spaces.

Row 7: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sc, *ch 3, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-7 space, ch 3, skip next sc**, sc in each of next 3 sc; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, sc in each of last 2 sc; turn—17 ch-2 spaces.

Rows 8-34: Repeat rows 2-7 (4 times), then repeat rows 2-4 (once).

Row 35: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, *ch 3, skip next sc, sc in next sc, ch 3**, 3 sc in next ch-2 space; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, sc in each of last 2 sts. Do not fasten off.

Edging

Rnd 1: Working across short edge of shawl, ch 2 (counts as hdc), work 47 hdc evenly spaced across, work 3 hdc in corner st, working across bottom edge, *3 hdc in next 2 ch-3 spaces**, hdc in each of next 3 ch sts; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, work 3 hdc in corner st, work48 hdc evenly spaced across short edge of shawl, work 3 hdc in corner st, ***3 hdc in next 2 ch-3 spaces**, hdc in each of next 3 sc; repeat from *** across, ending with 2 hdc in corner st; join with a slip st top of beginning ch-2—426 hdc.

Rnd 2: *Ch 3, picot, 3 dc in same st, skip next 2 hdc, si st in next hdc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in base of first ch-3—142 picots. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in ends. Block shawl.
