Materials:
Medium worsted weight yarn approximately 350 meters (hold 2 strands of yarn together)
Crochet hook size H/5 mm
Stitch markers - 5
Yarn needle
Size
Small - 5.5 inches long and 2 inches high
Medium - 6.25 inches long and 2.75 inches high
Large - 8 inches long and 3 inches high

sc - single crochet (UK - double crochet)/

Note:

  • Pattern is written for the smallest size. Changes for the other two sizes is given within brackets
  • Work continuously without joining at the end of each round unless otherwise specified.
Instruction
Section 1
Round 1: Holding 2 strands of yarn together ch 13 (15, 17), sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 10 (12, 14) ch, 3 sc in the last ch, sc in next 10 (12, 14) sc on the other side, 2 sc in the next ch. You will have 26 (30, 34) sts. Do not join.
Round 2: 2 sc in next st (place a marker at the 1st st to identify the beginning of a round moving it as you progress), sc in next 10(12, 14) sts (place marker at the 1st and last of these 10 (12 14) sts), 2 sc in each of the next 3 sts, sc in next 10 (12, 14) sts, (place marker at the 1st and last of these 10 (12 14) sts), 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts. You will have 32 (36, 40) sts.
Round 3: sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st from this marker to the next, repeat [sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] 3 times, sc in each st between the next 2 markers on the other side, repeat [sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] 2 times. You will have 38 (42, 46) sts.
Round 4: sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st between the next 2 markets, repeat [sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] 3 times, sc in each st between the next 2 markers on the other side, repeat [sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] 2 times. You will have 44 (48, 52) sts
Small size - continue with section 2. Medium and large size continue with round 5
Round 5: sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st between the next 2 markets, repeat [sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] 3 times, sc in each st between the next 2 markers on the other side, repeat [sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] 2 times. You will have (54, 58) sts
Medium size - continue with section 2. Large size continue with round 6
Round 6: sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st between the next 2 markets, repeat [sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] 3 times, sc in each st between the next 2 markers on the other side, repeat [sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] 2 times. You will have (64) sts. Continue with section 2
Section 2
Join the last st with a sl st to the 1st st and turn. Remove all markers except the one at the beginning of round.
Round 1: Ch 1, sc in the back loops of each st around. Do not join. Place marker at the beginning of round. You will have 44 (54, 64) sts.
Round 2: sc in both the loops of each st around.
Round 3: Repeat [sc in next st, sc in next st one row below (known as spike st) ] around.
Round 4: sc in each st around.
Round 5: Repeat [spike st in next st, sc in next st] around.
Round 6: Repeat round 4.
Round 7: Repeat round 3.

Small:
Sl st in each st around and cut off yarn. Weave in the loose ends.

Medium and Large:
Round 8: Repeat round 4.
Round 9: Repeat round 5
Medium: Sl st in each st around and cut off yarn. Weave in the loose ends.

Large:
Round 10: Repeat round 4.
Round 11: Repeat round 3

Sl st in each st around and cut off yarn. Weave in the loose ends.
