Crochet Snapdragon Slouch Hat

The Crochet Snapdragon Slouch Hat is a charming and cozy accessory that adds a pop of personality to any outfit! With its intricate stitch work and relaxed, slouchy fit, this hat is not only stylish but also perfect for keeping you warm and stylish during colder days. The vibrant colors and soft texture make it a fun and versatile piece that you can mix and match with different looks. Whether you're out running errands or enjoying a leisurely stroll, this hat will surely become your go-to accessory for a touch of warmth and flair. Kick back, relax, and let this cute crochet creation bring a touch of whimsy to your wardrobe!

Materials:

  • H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • 230 yards of light/#3 weight yarn (I used 4 balls of Truboo from Lion Brand in the “Mulberry” “Navy” “Celery” and “Sky”) Note: I used 4 full balls of yarn for both the scarf and matching hat, but if you just want to make the scarf, use 230 yards.
  • Yarn/tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Measuring Tape

Sizing:

  • 9 inches tall
  • 18 inch circumference
  • Brim is about 1 inch tall
  • Note: this hat is pretty stretchy in its finished form and has a relaxed fit.

Pattern Notes:

  • To change the circumference of the hat, simply work more rows of the pattern.
  • To change the height of the hat, increase/decrease the starting chain (see multiples below)
  • To change the brim width, work more/less rounds of the brim.

Snapdragon Crochet Slouch Hat Pattern:

Part 1-Main Part of the Hat

  • Multiple of 4+1.
  • Chain 41.
  • Row 1: Work 3 dc in the 5th ch from the hook. *Skip 3 chains, then work a sc into the next chain. Chain 3, then work 3 dc into the same chain. Repeat from * across until 4 chains are left. Skip 3 chains, then work a dc into the last chain.
  • Row 2: Chain 4 and turn. Work 3 dc into the first chain from the turning chain that you just worked. *Work a single crochet into the first ch 3 space from the previous row, chain 3, then work 3 dc into the same space. Repeat from * into each ch 3 space across, then work a sc into the topmost chain of the turning chain at the end of the row.
  • Repeat row 2 until your hat rectangle is as long as you need it for a comfortable hat circumference. I worked the one shown until the rectangle was about 19 inches wide. (Finished hat has about an 18 inch circumference because of the seaming)
  • Fasten off, then seam the edges together where you began and ended the piece using the whip stitch. Weave in ends.

Part 2-Hat Brim & Top

  • Tie yarn for the brim color into any of the bottom edge spaces of the “tube.”
  • Chain 2.
  • For round 1, evenly work hdc stitches around, working into the side spaces of the tube. Be sure they are evenly spaced and if there is an overly large side space, try working the stitch into the smaller space below it. This will help you to avoid any large gaping holes in the hat.
  • For the hat shown, I worked 60 hdc stitches around the edge. However if you made your hat circumference larger/smaller, you may need to work more/less stitches around. Just be sure they are neat and evenly spaced around. Join to close the round with a slip stitch.
  • For rounds 2-4, ch 2 then work a hdc into each stitch. Join to close the round with a slip stitch.
  • Fasten off.
  • To finish the top, turn inside out then seam around the top edge with a running stitch. Pull gently to close up the top then fasten securely.

Finishing:

  • Weave in any ends and your hat is ready to wear!
