Yarn Needle, 10” (25.5 cm) length of open link metal chain (sample uses Blue Moon Beads Gold Metal Chain), One 9/16” (14 mm) button



Finished Size: Interior pocket measures: 4¾” (12 cm) wide x 3¼” (8.5 cm) deep. Exterior measure: 5½” (14 cm) wide x 3½” (9 cm) tall


GAUGE: With larger hook, 12 sts and 13 rows in pattern = 3” (7.5 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge given.

Special Stitches Used


2-dc cluster (Cl): [Yarn over, insert in indicated st, yarn over, draw yarn though, yarn over, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook] twice in same st, yarn over, draw yarn through 3 loops on hook.

Pattern Notes

Front and Back of purse are worked off of a central foundation ch. Then edges of purse are single crocheted together. Chain handle has a length of crocheted yarn woven thru the links, which is then sewn in place.

BAG

Front

With larger hook, ch 22.

Set-up Row (WS): Change to smaller hook, working in back bumps of ch sts, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across; turn – 21 sc.

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc in first st, *Cl in next st, sc in next st; repeat from *across; turn – 11 sc, 10 Cl.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st to end of the row. [21 sc]

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 2 sts, *Cl in next st, sc in next st; repeat from * until 1 st remains un-worked, sc in last st. [12 sc, 9 Cl]

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn – 21 sc.

Rows 5-12: Repeat Rows 1-4 twice.

Rows 13-14: Repeat Rows 1-2. Cut yarn, leaving a 50” (127 cm) long tail. Drop loop and secure to be picked up later.

Back

Row 1: With RS facing and smaller hook, working across opposite side of foundation ch, join yarn with a slip st in first ch, ch 1, sc in each ch across; turn – 21 sc.

Rows 2-13: Repeat rows 2-13 of Front.

Row 14: Ch 1, sc in each of first 10 sts, (slip st, ch 9, slip st) in next st for button loop, sc in each of next 10 sts; turn. Do not cut yarn.

FINISHING

First Edging

With WS together, fold purse in half along Set-up Row, ch 1, turn work 90 degrees to work along side edge, working though double thickness of Front and Back, sc in each row- end st across to fold, slip st in Set-up Row. Fasten off.

Second Edging

Pick up dropped loop at end last row of Front, work same as First Edging.

Handle

With smaller hook and leaving a 10” (25.5 cm) tail, ch 45. Fasten off with 10” (25.5 cm) tail. Weave crocheted chain thru links of metal chain. Use long tails to sew each end of metal chain to top corners of Purse.

Button

Sew button between 5th and 6th Cl on Front. Weave in ends
