  • AUNT LYDIA’S Classic Crochet Thread Size 10: 1 ball each 1 White A, 487 Dark Royal B, 421 Goldenrod C, 431Pumpkin D, 484 Myrtle Green E, 493 French Rose F 494 Victory Red G
  • Yarn needle

Additional Supplies Needed:

Crochet Hooks: 1.65mm [US 7] and 1.30mm [US 10]

Gauge: 11 (dc, ch 2) mesh = 3″; 4 mesh rows = 1″. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge given.
Hot pad measures 6” wide x 5½” high.
Coaster measures 4” wide x 3¾” high.
Special Abbreviations
3-dc cluster: [Yarn over, insert hook around same dc post and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] 3 times, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook.
4-dc cluster: [Yarn over, insert hook around same space and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] 4 times, yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook.
HOT PAD
Foundation Mesh
With smaller hook and A, ch 62.
Row 1 (right side): Dc in 8th ch from hook, [ch 2, skip next 2 ch, dc in next ch] 18 times; turn—19 open mesh.
Rows 2-19: Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), [skip next ch-2 space, dc in next dc, ch 2] 18 times, skip next 2 chs, dc in next ch; turn. Fasten off.
Note: Foundation Mesh should measure 5 ¼” wide x 4¾” high when complete and will stretch when design area is worked.
Design Area
With right side facing, using larger hook, join B with slip st in last ch-2 space on Row 1 (dot on chart in bottom left corner), ch 3, 3 dc in same ch-2 space, follow arrow around to dot, working 8 dc in ch-5 corner spaces and 4 dc around each dc post and in each ch-2 space; join with a slip st in top of ch-3. Fasten off.
Work other sections in same manner, starting at dot and following arrow around to dot in this order:

1. Large flowers in C and G

2. Small flowers in D and F

3. Leaves in E

4. Background in A
Work center of flowers with thread color as per chart as follows:

Join with slip st around dc post as shown by dot on chart, ch 2, working in direction indicated by arrow, 3-dc cluster around same dc post, 4-dc cluster in next ch-2 sp, 4-dc cluster around next dc post, 4-dc cluster in next ch-2 space; join with slip st in first cluster. Fasten off.

Weave in ends.

COASTER SET

Foundation Mesh

With smaller hook and A, ch 44

Row 1 (Right Side): Dc in 8th ch from hook, [ch 2, skip next 2 chs, dc in next ch] 12 times; ch 5, turn – 13 open mesh.

Rows 2-13: [Skip next 2 chs, dc in next dc, ch 2] 12 times, skip next 2 chs, dc in next ch; ch 5, turn. At end of Row 13, do not ch 5. Fasten off.
Note: Mesh will measure 3 ½” wide x 3 ¼” high when complete and will stretch when design area is worked as follows:
Design Area (Use larger hook throughout)

Join B with slip st in ending ch-5 space on Row 12 (dot on chart in top right corner), ch 3, 7 dc in same ch-5 space, follow arrow around to dot, working 4 dc around each dc post and in each ch-2 space and 8 dc in ch-5 corner space; join with slip st in 3rd ch of beginning ch-3. Fasten off.
Work other sections in same manner, starting at dot and following arrow around to dot in this order:

1. Large flower in C

2. Small flower in F

3. Leaves in E

4. Background in A
