Crochet Itty Bitty Birthday Cake

Create a miniature birthday cake using the art of crochet. Craft a tiny confection that is perfect for celebrating special occasions or adding a touch of whimsy to your decor. This project involves using small hooks and yarn to carefully stitch together each detail of the cake, from the frosting to the candles. With this crochet pattern, you can customize the colors and decorations to suit your personal style. Whether you prefer a classic white cake with colorful sprinkles or a vibrant rainbow design, the possibilities are endless. This Itty Bitty Birthday Cake is a fun and creative way to showcase your crochet skills while also bringing a smile to anyone who sees it.

Materials;

I used some crochet thread I had laying around (sorry for the incredible specificity) and a size 1 steel hook.

Abbreviations are as follows:

ch = ch
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
BLO = back loops only

In magic adjustable ring, ch 3. 11 dc. Join. This is the top of your cake.

Now you're going to work in the round for the "body" of the cake.

ROUND 1: Ch 1. In BLO, sc in each stitch around.

ROUND 2: Sc in each sc around (both loops this time).

ROUND 3: In BLO, sc in each sc around.

ROUND 4: (Both loops this time) Sc in each sc around. Finish off. Weave in ends.

For the scallop "frosting", join color 2 (in this case, white) to round 1 of your previous work. Ch 1. *3 sc in next stitch, sl st in next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. Join. Finish off. Weave in ends.

Now join color 2 to round 4 of previous work. Ch 1. *3 sc in next stitch, sl st in next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. Join. Finish off. Weave in ends.

For the candle: Knot three pieces of crochet thread together. Braid about 1.5 inches. Tie off where you want the end of your candle to be. Color above that knot with a marker to create your "flame". Thread candle through center of cake top.

Stuff if desired.

I left mine hollow, but if you want you can make a bottom like this:

In magic adjustable ring, ch 3. 11 dc. Join. Finish off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Sew to bottom of cake.
