To make this scarf longer repeat the Ribbed Edging repeat section for as many rows as you’d like the scarf to be when complete. Make sure the number of rows you have can be divided by 4 evenly, then add one extra row. Then follow the Pattern Stitch Section as written. Add the final Ribbed Edging, repeating it for the number of rows you used for the starting Ribbed Edging.

If you’d like to increase the width of the scarf you can either increase the number of chains in the Ribbed Edging Sections or work more repeats of R3 in the Pattern Stitch Section.

Chunky Yarn Cottage Scarf for Winter:

We begin this project with the ribbed edging. The pattern stitch section is added directly into the ribbed edging. The final ribbed edging is worked directly into the pattern stitch section. This is crocheted in one-piece.

Ribbed Edging
Using your 6 mm (J) crochet hook (or size required for gauge):
R1: RS: Ch 12, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each rem ch across. Ch 1, turn. [11 sc]
R2-R169: 1 sc in the bl of each st across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st. Ch 1, turn. [11 sc]
Do not finish off.

Pattern Stitch Section
Rotate your work to continue across the row ends of the Ribbed Edging.
Using your 6 mm (J) crochet hook (or size required for gauge):
R1: 1 sc in each row end. Ch 1, turn. [169 sc]
R2: RS: 1 sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. [169]
R3: (1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc) in the first st, sk the next 3 sts. *(1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc) in the next st, sk the next 3 sts**. Work from * to ** across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st. Ch 1, turn. [43 sc, 42 hdc, 84 dc]
R4-R9: Rep R3
R10: RS: 1 sc in each st across. TURN so WS is facing. [169 sc]

Final Ribbed Edging
Rotate your work to add the final Ribbed Edging to the last row of sc worked. Be sure the WS of your project is facing.
Using your 6 mm (J) crochet hook (or size required for gauge):
R1: Ch 12, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each rem ch across. Sl st in each of the next 2 sc from R10. Turn. [11 sc]
R2: Sk the 2 sl sts, 1 sc in the bl of each st across to the last st. 1 sc in the last st. Ch 1, turn. [11 sc]
R3: 1 sc in the bl of each st across to R10. Sl st in each of the next 2 sc from R10. Turn. [11 sc]
R4-R169: Rep R2 and R3. Sl st to the corner of the Pattern Stitch Section.

Proceed to Finishing Instructions.

Finishing Instructions:

Weave in your ends.

You can use any yarn and hook to make this cozy scarf project!

With the yarn and hook you’ve chosen for the project, work R1 of the Ribbed Edging and repeat R2 until you reach the length you’d like for your scarf (shawl, or blanket). Make sure the number of rows you have can be divided by 4 evenly, then add one extra row.

Follow the Stitch Pattern Section as written.

Follow the Final Edging Section as written, but repeat for the same number of rows as the initial Edging Section was worked.
If you’d like to increase the width of the project either chain additional chains for R1 of the Ribbed Edging, or work more repeat rows for the Stitch Pattern Section of the scarf.

Follow the rest of the pattern as written.
