2.5 mm crochet hook

Yarn and Colors - Must Have in Canateloup

1 cork (approx. 4.5 cm tall and 3 cm diameter)

Pattern notes

The pattern is written using UK terminology, go to the UK to US terminology table for translations.

Chain 1 at the end of every round to move to next round.

Stitches shown in bracket like [this] are all to be worked into the same stitch of the previous round.

Special stitches

dec – decrease dc over two stitches.

Chain 3 picot – the final chain in the chain 3 picot is to be attached to the top of stitch it started from before moving on to next stitch.

Instructions

Body

Foundation row: Using yellow. Chain 16 and join with a slip stitch.

Round 1: 1 dc in every stitch around and join with slip stitch. (16)

Rounds 2 to 6: 1 dc in every stitch around and join with slip stitch. Fasten off on round 6. (16)

Round 7: Change to green. 1 dc, then 1 dc in to the stitch in row 5. Repeat 7 more times to the end. Join with slip stitch and fasten off. (16) The photo opposite, shows where you should place your hook, when crocheting into the row below.

Hat

Foundation row: Using yellow or orange, chain 20 and join with a slip stitch.

Round 1: 1 dc into every chain. Make sure you are only crocheting into the top of the chain (as in the photo) as the petals will be crocheted into the bottom part of the chain. (20)

Rounds 2 and 3: 1 dc into every stitch. (20)

Round 4: 3 dc, 1 dec. Repeat 3 more times. (16)

Rounds 5 and 6: 1 dc into every stitch. (16)

Round 7: 2 dc, 1 dec. Repeat 3 more times. (12)

Round 8: 1 dec. Repeat 5 more times. (6)

Rounds 9 to 11: 1 dc into every stitch. (6)

From round 2 onwards: dec until the point of the hat has formed. Fasten off.

Petals / Hat Trim

Work into the foundation row of the hat. Use yellow.

[1dc, 1htr], [1tr, 1dtr, chain 3 picot],[1 dtr, 1tr] [1htr, 1dc]. Repeat 4 more times, then attach with a slip stitch and fasten off.

Dress the gnome and sew the hat into position so that the petals frame the cork gnome’s face.

You should now have a daffodil gnome just waiting to take a place at your Easter Table.
