Pattern Notes:
- The Ch 2 does not count as a stitch.
- The pattern has a chain multiple of 3 plus 2 stitches. If you want to adjust the size of your pillow, chain in multiples of 3 and add 2 stitches to that. For example, you can chain 12 and add 2 stitches for a total of 14.
- This pattern uses the waffle stitch. If you have never done the waffle stitch, I recommend practicing with a small swatch first. I like to use acrylic yarn for my swatches because plush yarn doesn’t unravel easily when I make a mistake. You can chain 14 and follow the pattern to practice.
- If you need a visual aid to learn the waffle stitch, search YouTube for tutorials. Some patterns vary on where you place your first stitch, but the concept is the same.
- You can use your choice of yarn and hook size. Just keep in mind that this will change the final size of your plushie.
- If you have trouble identifying the first or last stitch of the row, use stitch markers to help you keep track.

Make the Waffle Panels Using Brown Yarn (Make 2 Panels)
To begin ch 35
Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each chain. Ch 2 and turn. (33 sts)
Row 2: Dc in 1st st, FPdc in next st, *Dc in next 2 sts, FPdc in next st*. Repeat from * to *. When you reach the last 2 sts, FPdc in 2nd to last stitch, and dc in last st. Chain 2 and turn.
Row 3: Dc in 1st 2 sts, FPdc in next 2 sts. * Dc in next st, FPdc in next 2 sts*. Repeat from * to *. Dc in last st. Chain 2 and turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 in that order until you have a total of 18 rows. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Make the Butter
To begin ch 8
Row 1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain. Chain 1 and turn. (7 sts)
Rows 2-7: Sc in each stitch, ch 1 and turn.
– After you complete the final row, sl st around the entire piece of butter. Place 2 sl sts in the corners (this will help round out corners). Leave tail for sewing.
– At this point you will add the eyes, mouth, and blush to your butter. Place the eyes between rows 6 and 7. My eyes are 4 stitches apart.
Assemble the Waffle
– Sew your butter onto one of the waffle panels. Be sure you sew your butter on the right (correct) side of the waffle panel.
Place your two waffle panels on top of each other with the wrong sides facing.
– Attach your yarn to the top left corner of both panels and place 2 sc sts into the corner.
Continue to sc the panels together, placing 1 sc in each stitch. Whenever you reach a corner, place 2 sts in the corner. This helps round out the corners.
*I know that it can be difficult to see your stitches when crocheting the sides together. Just do your best here. The stitch count is not important.
– Before you sc the final row closed, stuff your waffle. Be sure you don’t overstuff so that it keeps its shape.
