What you will need:
Yarn: Medium 4 Cotton Yarn (I used I Love This Cotton Yarn and/or Hobbii 8/8 Cotton Yarn), or Super Fine 1 cotton yarn (I used Hobbi 8/4 Rainbow Cotton) for small (white in photo above).
Crochet Hook: Size I (5.5mm) or size G/6 (4.25) for small (white in photo above).

Tapestry Needle

What you will need to know:
Chain Stitch – ch
Single Crochet – sc
Double Crochet – dc

Slip Stitch – slst

The Pattern:
(Chain 1 and 2 always counts as first SC or DC)

– ch 3, slst into ch 1 space to create a circle OR make a magic circle (I personally used a magic circle).

Row 1 – Ch 2, dc 11 into circle, slst to join to ch 2 (12)

Row 2 – Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, 1 dc in same stitch as ch 2, slst to join to ch 2 (24)

Row 3 – Ch 4, dc in next 4st, *ch 2, dc in next 4 st* *repeat around, but your last repeat will end on the third dc*, slst to join to 2nd ch st

Row 4 – ch 2, large shell (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in chain space, dc, sc, sc, dc, *Large shell in chain space, dc, sc, sc, dc* *repeat around, but last repeat ends on second sc,* slst to join to ch 2

Row 5 – ch 2, dc in next 2 st, large shell in chain space, dc in next 3 st, skip 2 st, dc in next 3 st, *large shell in chain space, dc in next 3 st, skip 2 st, dc in next 3 st* *repeat around,* slst to join to ch 2

Row 6 – ch 1, dc in next 4 st, *small shell (dc, ch2, dc) in chain space, dc in next 4 st, sc, sc, dc in next 4 st* *Repeat, but last repeat will end with first sc*

That’s it! You CAN keep going in this type of pattern, where each odd row has the “skip 2 st” and each even row has the two sc’s, but I’ve found that the bigger you go, the less accentuated the rows look. So that pulled-in petal look won’t look as crisp.

Cut your yarn and weave in your ends! Congratulations, that’s a cute coaster!
